8 Scholarships for French Language Majors

Over 70 million people speak French in nations throughout Europe, Canada, and portions of Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. A language with such a rich history and potential in the fields of culture, politics, economics, and literature needs its own discipline of study.

Students pursuing a degree in this field of French studies will not only be immersed in the romantic language and renowned literature but will also learn about French culture and history. The French studies major is multidisciplinary, so it will especially appeal to individuals who wish to enhance their careers in teaching, business, or international affairs with the French language.

French Studies funding is available at all levels and from colleges and institutions in both France and the United States. Scholarships are offered for both domestic and international study, and grants are accessible to both graduate and undergraduate students in the area. International students who desire to study French in France or in this country are also invited to pursue scholarship aid, if available.

Why Learn French?

Students who are fluent in French have several opportunities throughout their academic and professional careers. France and the United States have always had close relations. These historical ties have proven to be strong over time, and they continue to unify both countries in the face of big global crises. French is spoken by 1.3 million individuals in the United States, while 9 million Americans claim French heritage. With approximately 1.2 million pupils, French is the second most widely taught language in American schools after Spanish.
