Graduate Scholarships in STEM Fields


STEM stands for the four specific disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM takes a different route from the traditional approach in that it teaches STEM subjects into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

There are plenty of amazing jobs under STEM that will innovate on the present and define the future. Best of all, STEM jobs pay well with a median hourly average pay of $38.85. Some jobs under STEM include civil engineers, industrial psychologists, data scientists, and computer network architects.

STEM is so important because the industries of manufacturing, health care, and food production rely heavily on it. As of date, there are 2.4 million STEM jobs that remain unfilled. Added to this, there is an underrepresentation of women and minorities in the STEM fields.

The government and some institutions understand this shortfall and find solutions by generating interest in STEM among child learners. There are also many scholarships and grant-giving bodies that give special awards to students who intend to specialize in a STEM course. Some of these are as follows:

Scholarships for Women in Male-Dominated Fields

Microsoft Research Graduate Women’s Scholarship

The aim of this scholarship is to increase the number of women with a doctoral degree in the STEM field.

This scholarship gives women in graduate studies majoring in computer science, electrical engineering, or mathematics support for the second year of study. Students must apply as early as their first year. Eligibility for this scholarship includes being a resident of the USA or Canada and being nominated by your university.

Women Geoscientists-Chrysalis Scholarship

This scholarship understands that some women may have had their education interrupted due to childbirth and pregnancy. This award is funded by Women geoscientists. Your course or your research must be related to the Geosciences field to qualify. Additionally, you must have demonstrated academic achievement. The coverage of the scholarship not only includes tuition fees, but also covers for childcare, travel, and research.

Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program

Women engineers provide monetary assistance to female engineering students with a scholarship that will help them finish graduate degrees in engineering, engineering technology, or computer science. Students can apply for the scholarship within any year of their program.

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship

More women leaders are needed in the business arena and this scholarship encourages women a pursuing degree in business management. The scholarship is provided by Zonta International and is designed for women to break through the gender barrier. The stipend can cover tuition, books, and living expenses.

AWG Foundation Penelope Hanshaw Scholarship for Women

This scholarship is for female students who demonstrated academic excellence in the geoscience field. The specific grade point average required is 3.0 and the student must have the potential to make an impact in the Geoscience field.

ACM-W Scholarships for Women

Women who want to attend a research conference can get funding to travel abroad. You must be an undergraduate or graduate degree student in computer science or a related field who need financial assistance. The scholarship award for those who will be attending conferences in the United States or Canada is $600. Scholars attending conferences outside North America are awarded $1,200.  You will need a letter of recommendation from a school authority, such as a dean or advisor.

Graduate Programs Scholarships for Aerospace Engineering

NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program

The NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program provides educational funding for promising undergraduates, as well as graduate-level researchers. Undergraduates qualify for annual scholarships worth $15.000 each, which are earmarked for educational expenses in approved programs.

 Women in Aerospace Foundation

The WIA Foundation provides scholarships to women interested in a career in the aerospace field to pursue higher education degrees in engineering, math, or science.

Aerospace States Association

The Aerospace States Association is committed to education in physical science and engineering fields.  The ASA puts-forth scholarships worth $2000 each, reserved annually for sophomores and juniors working toward aeronautics degrees.

VSGC STEM Bridge Scholarships in the USA

The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) provides renewable STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Bridge Scholarships to students from any federally recognized minority group enrolled full-time in a program of the STEM at one of the five Virginia Space Grant member universities.

LMI Aerospace Scholarship in the USA

LMI Aerospace, Inc. is offering three $4,750 LMI Aerospace Engineering Scholarships. The scholarships are established to provide support to undergraduate students enrolled at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. The student will receive $4,750.

Texas A&M University, Aerospace Engineering Department

The Texas A&M University, Aerospace Engineering Department sponsors the following scholarships for students pursuing Aerospace Engineering degrees:

Benjamin and Deanna Smith Scholarships are awarded to juniors in the aerospace engineering program. Awards are distributed to academic standouts and are worth $1,000 each year.

Michael Ebanks Scholarship awards up to $1,000 annually, to an upper-level student.

Patrick and Carol Gibson Scholarships are given to upper-level students at the tops of their academic classes.

Auburn University

The Auburn University sponsors nearly a dozen endowed scholarships for students enrolled in the aerospace engineering program:

Fred Martin Annual Scholarship in Aerospace Engineering is designated for students with academic merit who are members of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Rodney Bradford Endowment is awarded annually, to a financially needy student from Alabama pursuing a major in aerospace engineering.

Palazola & Benmoussa Scholarship for Aerospace Engineering in the USA

Wichita State University (WSU) is offering Palazola & Benmoussa Aerospace Engineering Scholarship. A P&B Scholarship supports a student to complete their degree and to work closely with an AE faculty member. The scholarship includes up to $20,000 a year to cover tuition and fees, room and board, and book expenses.

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department Aeronautical Engineering Scholarships

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (MAE) offers several aeronautical engineering scholarships each year. These scholarships are open to seniors, juniors, and sophomores.

OSGC Education Scholarships in the USA

These scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate and Post-Baccalaureate students in the College of Education at an OSGC participating college or university. The Education scholarship is a one-year award of $2,000 and is paid during the academic year. Women and underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

Keynote Scholarship

Provided to a high school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student with definite plans to pursue a career in the science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) fields.

Ryland Milner Scholarship

The Ryland Milner Scholarship is available to juniors, seniors, and graduate students at Northwest Missouri State University. The students must be majoring in HPERD with a minimum 2.5 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and have completed a minimum of 27 credit hours to be eligible for this award. The scholarship amount awarded is $1,150.

Conceptual Mind Works, Inc./Dr. Harold G. Longbotham Scholarship

The Conceptual Mind Works, Inc./Dr. Harold G. Longbotham Scholarship is available to full-time sophomore students enrolled in one of the schools in the Alamo Community College District. The students’ must be majoring in math or science, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate merit and financial need to be eligible for this award. The scholarship amount awarded is $500.

College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Excellence Award – MSU, Billings

The College of Arts and Sciences Alumni Excellence Award is available to full-time juniors and seniors enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences at Montana State University, Billings. The students must have a minimum 3.2 GPA overall with a minimum 3.4 GPA in their major to be eligible for this award. The scholarship amount awarded is $500.

John C. and Helen Voelker Scholarship

The John C. and Helen Voelker Scholarship is available to full-time students at Montana State University, Billings. The students must be a past or present employee of Westpark Village Retirement Center with at least one year of satisfactory work experience to qualify for this award. A minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need are also required. Preference will be given to science majors. The scholarship amount awarded is $225.

Terry Albus Memorial Scholarship

The Terry Albus Memorial Scholarship is available to freshmen and sophomores at South Plains College. Incoming freshmen must have graduated in the upper 50 percent of their high school class and be enrolled full time; sophomores must have a minimum 2.75 GPA. The students must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award. Preference is given to science majors. The scholarship amount awarded is up to $500.

Ray Bourkney Scholarship

The Ray Bourkney Scholarship is available to incoming students enrolling in the College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin, Platteville. The scholarship amount awarded varies.

James R. and Mary L. Cooley Scholarship

The James R. and Mary L. Cooley Scholarship is available to students entering the College of Business, Industry, Life Science, and Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin Platteville. The students must be a graduate of River Ridge School in Patch Grove, WI to be eligible for this award. The scholarship amount awarded varies.

Virginia S. Bagley Scholarship

The Virginia S. Bagley Scholarship is available to graduate students majoring in the Department of Biological Sciences at Old Dominion University. The scholarship amount awarded varies.

Science Museum of Eastern Virginia Scholarship

The Science Museum of Eastern Virginia Scholarship is available to full-time juniors at Old Dominion University. The students must have a minimum of 3.25 GPA and be majoring in biology, chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics, oceanography, physics or psychology to be considered for this award. The scholarship amount awarded varies.
