I have heard that today’s job market is very competitive and if you want to compete with others you have to leave your mark with your qualifications and results. I am about to complete my undergraduate program in next few months and have decided to continue my passion of computer science by pursuing masters in computer science and engineering from the University of California. My undergraduate classmates have told me that there is minimum GRE score requirement to get in the University of California. I would really appreciate if someone could confirm the statement of my classmates and tell me the other general admission requirements of the University as well.

You are absolutely right! Today’s job market is competitive because it now looks for people with a master’s degree in their field of study. Top companies would rather hire fresh graduate students than those who have an undergraduate degree with work experience. But you should also know that getting into the master’s program is also competitive. University of California Berkeley master of science in computer science program has a competitive admission rate and less than 50% of applicants are approved.

The short answer to your question is there’s no minimum GRE score requirement for entering University of California Berkeley’s computer science graduate program. However, I’ve looked around for a good average to reach for to get into a good university. From my sources, it’s best to reach for the average of 151 for verbal and 152 for Quantitative.

Application deadline: December 1

You’ll need:
– 3 letters of recommendation
– GRE: General
– statement of purpose
– an average GPA of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale
– IELTS (7.0 minimum)/TOEFL (PPT: 560; IBT: 87), if you’re a foreign student.

While you’re looking into the masters in computer science program at the University of California Berkeley, you should also know that other universities and college don’t usually have a minimum GRE score requirement. Admission isn’t based entirely on GRE scores, but more on what you can offer in the program as a whole.

UC Berkeley’s computer science program only accept about 7 to 8 percent of their applicants which is why you will have to stand out. This means that the selection process is rigorous and getting into the computer science program, you will have to make sure that your average GPA is in the 3.8 to 4.0 on a 4.0 scale and that you’re in the high percentile in terms of GRE scores.
