Graduate assistantships are a type of paid academic employment in which students are reimbursed for on-campus labour, similar to a work study programme. Research assistantships and teaching assistantships are available at most schools. Assistantships, like fellowships, are considered a salary and do not count as a financial aid grant.
Graduate assistantships are available from the institution/department for students pursuing higher education at their university. After contacting your department to inquire about possible assistantships, you will most likely be required to complete a normal application process, confirm that you will maintain a particular GPA, and participate in at least one face-to-face interview. Graduate assistants will, in most situations, need to be highly motivated, have great time management skills, communicate well, and be organised enough to finish their task on top of an already hectic academic schedule.

Assistantships may come with a full or partial (50%) tuition waiver. The monthly stipend rate is set by the hiring department or unit. Pay rates may vary by student experience, funding source, discipline, and responsibilities specific to the appointment.
Requirements:
Students must be in good academic standing (not on probation) and have the permission of their degree program to hold an assistantship. In addition, they cannot exceed their program’s limitation on the number of hours to be worked. Students must be eligible to work in the United States and cannot exceed any hourly limitations placed on them by a visa. All graduate assistants must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours for the fall and spring semesters and 9 credit hours during the summer semester.

Those interested in an assistantship should submit their applications by December 15th. After being accepted into the program, students are considered for assistantships. Applicants are advised to submit their applications by January 9 in order to be considered for full consideration for the autumn semester.

To be admitted to the programme, part-time students do not need to apply for a graduate assistantship. An applicant’s current work, however, must be in a field connected to Student Affairs. The CSA programme coordinator will decide whether or not an applicant’s job meets this condition.
Higher Education Graduate Assistantships at Taylor University
