The M.S. in Earth and Environmental Sciences degree involves coursework as well as a research-based thesis. The curriculum is adaptable, with a programme that is congruent with the student's background, career and research goals. Master's candidates in geology or geophysics are expected to have taken two semesters (or equivalent) of a college-level physics or chemistry course prior to admission, and must complete, or have completed, a minimum of two semesters of college-level calculus before completing their degree. Students are encouraged to broaden their knowledge by studying geology, geophysics, and environmental geosciences courses alongside other disciplines and mathematics.

Earth and Environmental Sciences

Taking the GRE is optional. However, if applicant chose to do so, applicant may GRE scores with their application.

A score of 100 or higher on the TOEFL iBT test or 7.0 or higher on the IELTS test is required.

Admitted M.S. and Ph.D. students typically received tuition remission credits and a monthly stipend as a TA or RA Tuition Remission as a form of financial aid that defrays the tuition costs of taking graduate courses at Boston College. Most graduate students receive enough tuition remission credits to complete required graduate student coursework at no cost to them as long as they are in good standing within the program.
