MFA Program in Creative Writing
The Creative Writing Program offers the MFA degree, with a concentration in either poetry or fiction. MFA students pursue intensive study with distinguished faculty committed to creative and intellectual achievement. Each year the department enrolls only eight MFA students, four in each concentration. The department offer a large and diverse graduate faculty with competence in a wide range of literary, theoretical and cultural fields. Every student chooses a special committee of two faculty members who work closely alongside the student to design a course of study within the broad framework established by the department.
Students participate in a graduate writing workshop each semester and take six additional one-semester courses for credit, at least four of them in English or American literature, comparative literature, literature in the modern or Classical languages or cultural studies (two per semester during the first year and one per semester during the second year).

Every M.F.A. candidate must prepare a written statement, offer a thesis exhibition of studio work completed during residency, and give an oral defense of the written statement and exhibition.
Applicants to the Master of Fine Arts program must submit a portfolio of visual materials.
GRE scores are not required for admission to the M.F.A. program.
The TOEFL or IELTS exam is required for non-native English applicants.
IELTS: The Graduate School requires an overall band score of a 7.0 or higher on the IELTS Academic exam.
Applicants who are citizens of India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc.
Applicant must submit a transcript that shows applicant attended college in one of the approved locations, and that their academic program was at least two years in length.
