The Duke UCEM seeks to increase the number of outstanding Ph.D. graduates from underrepresented populations (i.e., African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans) in the physical sciences and engineering. They award Sloan Scholarships to 10 incoming students each year in the following Ph.D. program: Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistical Science, Biomedical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science
