Application Requirements

We’ll consider your:

1. Academic Record:A grade point average of 3.2 and above is expected. The average GPA of students entering the MSIS program in fall 2016 was 3.46.2. Resume: You’re more than test scores and GPA. We’ll look at your extracurricular activities, work history, volunteer projects and military experience.

3. Personal Statement: Share your career plans and how you think the MSIS program will help realize your goals—and demonstrate your written communication skills. The statement should be one to two pages—about 700 words.

4. Letters of Recommendation: Provide two letters of recommendation from people who know you academically and professionally. One letter must be from a college faculty member.

5. Test Scores: Recommended scores and codes:

(1)Current students or alumni of an accredited U.S. institution may submit a priority application and request a test score waiver.

(2)No GMAT and GRE scores are required for Kelley and SICE students on the IU Bloomington campus as well as +Kelley students.

(3)The test scores specified here are representative of applicants typically invited to interview and are provided as a guideline for prospective students. They are not cutoff scores.

6. Interviews: Competitive applicants near Bloomington, Indiana will be invited to campus for interviews. Applicants outside of the area will be interviewed in-person, via Skype, or over the phone.

In the Information Systems concentration, you'll learn the latest technological tools to confront complex societal and environmental challenges and to make the most of the new opportunities our digital world presents. You'll develop the technical skills necessary to inform and direct discussion on a range of policy issues and tasks, including environmental planning, natural resource management, and facility siting.

You'll get hands-on experience with database design and advanced training in geographic information systems (GIS). You'll be prepared for a variety of in-demand positions in the public and private sectors, including chief information officer, systems analyst, systems designer, database administrator, and webmaster.

MPA students focused on Information Systems (Fall 2018).

You'll begin by mastering the fundamentals reflected in our MPA program core competencies. These five courses (15 credit hours) will give you well-developed analytical skills and a broad understanding of policy issues and government processes. You'll then build on this foundation with three required courses that the fundamental aspects of information systems specifically to the public sector.

The remainder of the coursework comes in a wide range of elective courses. These will allow you to tailor your Information Systems program to your own specific interests. A sample of electives are listed below:.

The PhD program in information systems prepares academic scholars focused on how business technologies are designed, developed, and used to enable and empower individuals, teams, processes, organizations, and society. Students have the advantage of a flexible program structure that allows them to take courses within and outside the department. Several recent graduates published research in top journals before they entered the job market.

The department has had a significant growth in research expertise in IT-enabled decision-making, including the impact of recommender systems on decision-making and IT for the subconscious.

We have increased our research expertise in the design of IT systems, including cognitive aspects in systems design, semiotics and design, and the science of design.
