Founded in 1831, New York University is a private university located in New York City. Its Founder Albert Gallitan called it a university that is "in and of the city." The university through its various programs aims to strengthen the skills and expertise of students that will help them to develop themselves as leaders and innovators in their chosen fields. There are a variety of graduate programs including master's degrees, online master's programs, and Ph.D. programs offered by the university.

New York University is a recognized private university. As per the QS World University Rankings 2021, it was ranked as the number 2 best University in New York City after Columbia University in Top Universities in New York City. It occupied the 25th position in the Best Universities rankings of 2022. At the same time, it was ranked #26 in Most Innovative Schools.

Faculty of New York University

• Saul Bellow: Professor at New York University, Bellow received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1976. He is the only writer to win the National Book Award for Fiction three times.
• Wassily Leontief: A Soviet-American Economist, he worked as a professor at NYU from 1975 to 1999. He received the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economics in 1973.

Acceptance Rate at New York University

The acceptance rate at NYU has significantly decreased recently, indicating a shift in the school's admissions procedure toward increased selectivity. Consider the class of 2022, where only 12.2% of applicants were accepted. This pattern continued, with the class of 2027 experiencing the most selective cohort in the university's history as it dropped to an astonishing 8%.

The declining acceptance rates are consistent with the increasing number of applications that NYU gets each year. It is astounding to learn that NYU received over 120,000 applications for the class of 2027 alone. This degree of selectiveness is extremely different from prior years, especially the class of 2021, which had an admission rate of 27%, which was relatively generous. This increase in competition is evidence of NYU's rising stature and appeal to potential students.

It was the most difficult year for admissions to date for the New York University Class of 2024, due to an extremely competitive admissions process. Only 13,000 of the 85,000 applications that the university received were accepted, giving it an overall acceptance rate of 15.3%. With a growth of 10.5% over the prior year, this is a noteworthy increase in applications. In addition, 3,848 of the 13,842 applicants for the same class were accepted during the early admissions round, yielding an early acceptance percentage of 27.8%. These figures demonstrate NYU's status as one of the most selective universities in the world for undergraduate admissions, maintaining the downward trend in acceptance rates throughout time.
