Work with struggling elementary and secondary school students to measurably improve their school experiences, academic outcomes, and psychological well-being.

This NASP-approved Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in School Psychology prepares you for permanent NYS certification as a school psychologist or for related careers in educational consulting, scholastic assessment, and behavioral intervention services.

In the program, you learn create evidence-based treatment programs that equip children and young adults with constructive study habits, useful coping strategies, and positive ways of interacting with peers, parents, teachers, and school administrators.

The 73-credit CAS curriculum includes an embedded 30-credit master in educational psychology that is required for permanent NYS certification as a school psychologist.

Choose two: Developmental Neuropsychology, Individual Differences in Human Behavior, Social Psychology Foundations in Professional Psychology.

Educational Research Design, Independent Study, or Master Thesis.

In your first year in the program, you take courses and complete practice assignments such as administering and interpreting tests of intelligence and achievement.

Field Experience I: Practicum in School Psychology: 420 Hours.

In your second year, you move through a planned sequence of supervised training experiences that expose you to the full range of school psychology services.

Full-Time Student Internship in School Psychology: 1200 Hours.

During your third-year internship, you directly participate in interventions and support students who are encountering educational, social, emotional, and behavioral problems in public schools. Internships typically comprise ten months of full-time work in a school setting, coupled with group seminars and reflective practice.

School Psychology is approved for licensure or certification in New York State and the institution has not made a determination regarding the educational requirements for any other state.

Statement of goals The statement is generally one to two pages discussing what you have to offer the program and what you wish to get out of the program. It should include a brief description of the applicant field of interest, related background, desired area of study and research emphasis or career goals.

School Psychology is not available to international applicants.

School Psychology requires an internship, field experience, study abroad component, or clinical experience requirement.
