Health Profession Scholarships

Presidential Scholarship

The College of Natural Sciences (CNS) at The University of Texas at Austin offers a variety of scholarships for current undergraduate students. These scholarships are designed to support students in their academic endeavours and are awarded through different channels, including college-wide, departmental, and health professions scholarships. Some of the eminent scholarships are as follows:

College-wide Scholarships

These scholarships are chosen by the CNS Undergraduate Scholarship Committee and are available to current undergraduates. The CNS Common Scholarship Application is used to determine eligibility for these awards. Some of the notable scholarships include:

  • Dr. H. Franklyn Alexander Endowed Scholarship
  • Carl Stone Benedict Scholarship
  • Blocker-Cramer Endowed Scholarship
  • Robert E. Boyer Endowed Presidential Scholarship for Natural Sciences
  • Anna Lee and Alexander Chang Endowed Scholarship and others.

Health Professions Scholarships

These scholarships are specifically for students pursuing careers in health-related fields. The same common application is used for these scholarships. Some key scholarships in this category include:

  • Alpha Epsilon Delta Memorial Scholarship: For pre-medical students with a minimum GPA requirement and financial need consideration.
  • Laurence Baker Memorial Scholarship: Aimed at pre-medical students with financial need.
  • Blocker-Cramer Endowed Scholarship: For science or pre-medical students with a minimum GPA and leadership roles.
  • Michael John Fink, M.D. Endowed Presidential Scholarship: For pre-medical students with a high GPA and U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. And others.

Department Scholarships

These scholarships are distributed through the departments within CNS. Each department offers scholarships specific to their majors and areas of study. Departments include Astronomy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Human Ecology, Mathematics, Physics, and UTeach.

Out-of-State Tuition Waivers

These waivers allow non-resident students to pay tuition at in-state rates. To be eligible, students must receive a scholarship worth at least $1,000 awarded by the university. The waivers are highly competitive and awarded on a semester-to-semester basis.

University Scholarships

CNS students can also apply for scholarships offered by UT Austin at large. These require a separate application process.

National Scholarships

CNS assists students in applying for nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships. These include prestigious awards like the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation award, Churchill Scholarship, Fulbright Program, Gates Cambridge Scholarships, and others. Many of these require a campus nomination or endorsement.

Application Process

The CNS Common Scholarship Application typically opens each January, with deadlines usually in March. Students are encouraged to check the CNS website regularly for updates and specific deadlines.

Eligibility and Selection

Eligibility criteria vary depending on the scholarship. Factors like academic achievement, financial need, area of study, and year in school are considered in the selection process.

These scholarships reflect CNS's commitment to supporting its students academically and financially, helping them achieve their educational and career goals. Students are encouraged to explore these opportunities and seek assistance from the college when needed.
