Master of Arts in Humanities The University of Texas at Dallas
The Master of Arts in Humanities degree program is designed both for individuals wishing to enhance their knowledge of the humanities and their skills in humanistic inquiry and for students intending to pursue a PhD in related fields. The humanities program brings together scholars from history, philosophy, literature, creative writing, art history, film studies, and the performing arts who share a commitment to transnational and interdisciplinary approaches to humanisticstudy and practice.
Literature, which concentrates on literature, language, rhetoric, translation studies andcreative writing.
Visual and Performing Arts, which concentrates on visual and performing arts, art history andfilm studies.
All students must take seminars in each of these three main areas of study and elect either a professional or research option, the latter being especially relevant for those with plans for doctoral study. The research option requires students to demonstrate proficiency in an approved foreign language and complete a thesis.
Comprehensive Curriculum: Courses in the program will introduce students to new ideas,methodologies and competencies while preparing them to succeed in both public and privatesectors.

School of Arts and Humanities - Scholarships and Fellowships
The School of Arts and Humanities has funding opportunities available to students directly through the School.
In July of 2015, the Dorfman Kivowitz families made a donation to the School of A H in recognition of their grandparents, Dorothy and Herman Abrams. Herman Abrams, now deceased, was once a graduate student in Arts Humanities who earned a master degree from our program. The donation not only commemorates his receiving an advanced degree from A H but also honors his widow, Dorothy, on her 100th birthday.
The privately-endowed Armstrong Fund permits the School of Arts and Humanities at UTD to award a few modest fellowships to graduate students each academic year. In contrast to teaching assistantships, which involve part-time work for the school and are based solely on students' academic record, these awards are based on financial need as well as academic merit. Thus, applicants must provide the fellowship committee information on their incomes as well as estimated expenses.
The Edward and Wilhelmina Ackerman Foundation created the Belofsky Fellowship to develop the next generation of Holocaust educators. Belofsky Fellows have the opportunity to pursue doctoral studies under the supervision of Dr. Zsuzsanna Ozsvath, Dr. Nils Roemer, or Dr. David Patterson, all of whom teach and pursue research at the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies.
Current PhD students in Arts Humanities at UT Dallas may for a limited number of Edith O'Donnell Graduate Fellowships to support the completion of their dissertations. Applications are accepted from students working on art history and aesthetic studies topics and from other humanities students (in history, philosophy, and literature, etc.) whose work has the potential to intersect in productive ways with the field of art history.
Elterman Endowed Scholarship.
Elterman have created an endowed scholarship to support students pursuing a degree in the School of Arts and Humanities. Ragen Elterman received her BA in Literary Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas. A $1,000 stipend will be awarded annually in the fall semester to a promising student with a GPA of at least 3.0. Scholarship recipients can seek a second year of funding.
A $500 scholarship in honor of the late, distinguished historian of the Middle East and Mughal India and beloved professor of Historical Studies. Historical Studies majors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible. The deadline for applications nominations is in October. The recipient is announced in November.
The children and grandchildren of the late Mike Jacobs established this fellowship in his honor to recognize the life of a man who witnessed history and shared his story with others. Jacobs, a Holocaust survivor, successful business man, and author, was known as an enthusiastic speaker and a dedicated member of the Dallas Jewish community. This fellowship helps to fund the academic career of a UT Dallas graduate student who will focus on Holocaust studies.
The Jonelle and Bryce Jordan Scholarship Fund was established in 1981 to support music students at the University of Texas at Dallas. Bryce Jordan, flutist and musicologist, was the first President of UT Dallas. It has since been extended, with Dr. Jordan approval, to provide for students in any of the creative and performing arts.
In 2008, UT Dallas established the Robert S. Nelsen Scholarship in Creative Writing to honor former vice provost Robert Nelsen decades of service to UT Dallas students and staff. This endowment will provide scholarship support for students enrolled in the School of Arts and Humanities. These funds will be used to provide a scholarship based on financial need or academic merit to a full-time or part-time School of Arts and Humanities degree-seeking or graduate student. The recipient must have a dedication and passion for creative writing. Recipients of the scholarship will receive a biographical summary of Robert S.
The award is given alternatively to an Historical Studies graduating senior and either a History of Ideas PhD who has successfully defended his or her dissertation or a graduating History MA thesis student.
The Barb and Bob Sypult Scholarship in Music.
The Barb and Bob Sypult Scholarship in Music for the support of students in the School of Arts and Humanities at UT Dallas was established through a generous gift. One Scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded annually to a student in good academic standing who is or will be a full-time UTD student. The Scholarship is awarded over the two long semesters (Fall and Spring), half payable in each semester. The Scholarship recipient must enroll in at least one music course during each semester for the duration of the award.
The Victor Worsfold Grant fund supports student-led service activities that benefit the UT Dallas, local, and or global community. Students can individually or in groups, and the grants are not limited to any one type of community work or discipline. Examples of projects include proposals to alleviate poverty, support education, or spread the arts.
