Asian American Studies
The Asian American Studies Department and the Department of Community Health Sciences in the School of Public Health offer a concurrent degree program whereby students may pursue the M.A. in Asian American Studies and the Master of Public Health at the same time. Students must complete the program requirements for both degrees. The review process is conducted separately by each department, but the same statement of purpose may be submitted to each. Applicants interested in this concurrent program should contact the Asian American Studies Department and the Community Health Sciences Department in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health.

The application for UCLA Graduate Admissions for Fall 2024 are expected to open on after Labor Day. All required admission materials must be submitted via the online application by December 1st.

The statement of purpose should address their reasons for pursuing an M.A. degree in Asian American Studies, past and present experiences within the field, and their involvement with the Asian American community. The statement of purpose should be approximately 1-page , single spaced, using 1-inch margins and 12-point font.
Three letters of recommendation are required. The Asian American Studies strongly recommends the submission of letters of recommendation via the UCLA Graduate Division online application.
GRE scores are not required for the application, but if they are submitted, they may be evaluated with their entire file.

The Asian American Studies accepts admission applications from International students.
All international applicants whose first language is NOT English are required to certify their proficiency in English. Test of English as a Foreign Language OR International English Testing System examination must be submitted with the application. The minimum TOEFL or IELTS scores, required by UCLA before a recommendation is made by the graduate program, are 560 on the paper test or 220 on the computer-based test or Overall Band Score of 7.0 Scores are valid for two years prior to application for graduate admission.
The Asian American Studies will make every effort to release admission decisions to all applicants by April 15th.
