PhD in Finance

NULL

A PhD in Finance is offered by the University of California-Los Angeles. The goal of the Ph.D. program is to train students for careers as academics in financial economics. Financial economics is the study of how people and businesses acquire, allocate, and value financial resources. The factors that affect asset returns, the cost of risk, investor behavior, and trading methods are some of the specific issues covered by asset pricing. Capital structure, payout policy, financial intermediation, internal capital markets, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance are specific themes in corporate finance.

The Ph.D. program can be completed in five years. The program's main feature is that doing research is the best way to learn how to conduct it. Based on this concept, the program is built around students producing academic papers, usually one each year. A significant portion of the program's first two years is spent in the classroom, where students gain the fundamental knowledge of economics and statistics before finishing year-long sequences on asset pricing and corporate finance.

A series of alternating half-semester classes on cutting-edge subjects are included in the curriculum and are taught by USC faculty members and distinguished visiting scholars. Additionally, students go to weekly seminars where eminent academics from various universities share their work.
