Admission Requirements for Graduate Programs at University of Delaware

English Urban Affairs and Public Policy
English majors may apply to the 4+1 accelerate, combined program after completing 60 credit hours. This is typically in the fall semester of the Junior Year. While applicants are encouraged to apply for admission prior to registering for courses for the spring semester of the junior year, applications will be accepted through April 15.
1. Applicants must have a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA.
2. Applicants must take the GRE by December of their junior year…Generally, those admitted to the MA program have scores on the quantitative and verbal aptitude portions of the GRE at the 65th percentile on the IBT version of the test. The School has established no minimum GRE score required for admission. GREs are viewed in the context of the applicant’s complete record. The Director of the MA program may waive the GRE for students with a GPA of 3.5 and above.
4. Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation, addressing the applicant’s ability to successfully accomplish graduate level studies. At least one letter must be from a faculty member from the applicant’s minor in Public Policy, and at least one letter must be from a faculty member from the applicant’s major in English.
5. Applicants must submit an official transcript.
6. Applicants must submit a statement of interests and objectives.

PhD in Engineering and Public Policy
The minimum requirements for admission to the doctoral program in Engineering and Public Policy are a bachelor’s degree with a grade point average of at least 3.5 (out of a possible 4.0) in engineering; a research-based master’s degree with a grade point average of at least 3.5 (out of a possible 4.0) in an engineering or technical field; a demonstrated commitment and aptitude for applying policy considerations to technical decisions in the required essays; and a TOEFL score (for international students) of at least of at least 100 on the iBT with a minimum speaking score of 18 (TOEFL scores more than two years old cannot be considered official.
July 1 is the Final Deadline for Fall admissions.

Microbiology Graduate Program
Admission to the graduate program is competitive. Those who meet stated requirements are not guaranteed admission, nor are those who fail to meet all of those requirements necessarily precluded from admission if they offer other appropriate strengths.
Applications normally are considered only for fall entrance. International applicants are considered only for fall admission. To ensure optimum consideration for fall admission, complete applications should be received at this university by January 15 with a final deadline of April 15. Evaluation of applications will begin on January 15, and applications received between January 15 and April 15 will be considered only if unfilled slots remain.
o be admitted to the graduate program, applicants should meet the following requirements:
1. A completed University of Delaware Graduate Studies application. In the application, prospective students should indicate clearly whether they are applying for the MS or the Ph.D. program.
2. A personal statement is required in the Graduate Studies application
3. Graduate Record Examination Scores are not required for domestic applicants. Subject GRE scores are not required.
4. Official, up-to-date transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate programs. A minimum of 3.0/4.0 is required in the major.
5. Three letters of recommendation from individuals with knowledge of the applicant’s research experience, academic preparation and potential ability as a graduate student.
6. International students must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (Minimum Score: 550 paper test, 79 on Internet-based tests) TOEFL scores more than two years old cannot be considered official.
7. Interview with one or more faculty members of the Microbiology program including but not limited to the potential major advisor. Interviews should be conducted in person for domestic applicants and via Skype or other video-base call for international applicants
Applicants should provide evidence of research experience (academic or otherwise) in their personal statement and on their curriculum vita. Applicants with prior research experience will receive priority consideration.
