Graduate Certificate program in Biostatistics at University of Kentucky

Biostatistics
Biostatistics is the science of translating data into decisions for public health, health care, and biomedical research. Biostatisticians work with other scientists to collect, analyze, and interpret data for the purpose of building scientific evidence. They often work within teams to design studies, create analysis plans, and develop methodology to answer complicated public health questions.
Along with the Epidemiology, the Biostatistics offers an integrated PhD program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The degree prepares graduates for careers in population-based research, developing the next generation of independent researchers who are skilled in designing and conducting studies, as well as analyzing and interpreting the results. Building on research collaborations across campus, the program is unique in its approach to cross-disciplinary training and mentoring, which provides a diverse exposure to emerging data trends in the public health and biomedical research. The department also offers a graduate certificate in Biostatistics, providing students with a general background in methodological skills for applied settings in industry, government, and academia. Graduates with this certificate augment their research program in areas that include data management, SAS programming data analyst, clinical trials, statistical genetics, outcomes research, and program evaluation.
A 15-credit hour graduate certificate that allows students studying in programs outside the Biostatistics to gain a basic background in the design and analysis of biomedical studies.
Graduates of this program are prepared to address the practical challenges of conducting population-based, clinical and translational research in the multidisciplinary work environments of academia, government, and industry.
