KLA Systems Engineering Certificate

systems-engineering

Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt in Operational Excellence.

Integrative Systems + Design (ISD) systems engineering certificate program, part of the University of Michigan (U-M), has existed for nearly 10 years, providing KLA engineers with technical leadership, depth in their own engineering discipline, breadth across engineering disciplines, knowledge of basic management issues, and the ability to influence and direct product development at a systems level.

The certificate program is designed to introduce students to a broad array of systems engineering topics with a specific emphasis on KLA work in optics and computer science.

In recent years, ISD has moved to the forefront of systems engineering education. We have identified a need nationally for training in systems thinking for engineers who are well-versed in a specific discipline (mechanical engineering, for example) but are preparing for complex, diverse work with large-scale systems, often involving many team members and stakeholders.

Broaden the perspective of engineers by teaching a top-down interdisciplinary engineering approach for the development, design, and manufacturing of complex systems, and balancing the trade-offs required to successfully build these systems.

Strengthen the technical competence and depth of professionals by teaching advanced skills in their engineering disciplines, and by infilling courses in engineering outside of their primary engineering areas.

To obtain the certificate, complete the required core course and at least 3 courses from elective courses below, with a grade of 3.0 4.0 or better.

ISD 520 Introduction to Systems Engineering (typically offered in fall, winter, spring summer).

IOE 461 Quality Engineering Principles and Analysis (typically offered in fall).

ISD 599A Software Systems Engineering Tentative (typically offered in winter).

Bachelor degree in engineering, science, or a related field.

The equivalent of two years of experience in the semiconductor industry (for degree only).

KLA students must be enrolled through U-M as non-candidate-for-degree (NCFD) students in order to complere the professional degree. NCFD status can be changed in a subsequent semester, and allows qualified students to begin their studies before completing a degree application.

Students who want to apply these credits to a degree must Master of Engineering in Systems Engineering + Design degree before enrolling in a 3rd course. Not than six-credits may apply towards the master degree.

All KLA professional certificate students apply as NCFD students. NCFD applications must be completed at least two weeks before the semester begins.

All KLA students who are seeking to be admitted to the degree program must apply through the normal degree application process.

A minimum set of courses must be completed within five years of the start date to be eligible for the professional certificate. Credits may be applied toward a graduate degree for five years after earning the credits.
