Ph.D. Kinesiology Requirements
At University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, to be considered for funding, applications for Fall admission to the Doctoral program are due December 1.
TOEFL scores are required for all applicants whose native language is not English, regardless of your educational experience.
The University of Michigan code for the GRE and the TOEFL is 1839. (The department code is not necessary, since GRE and TOEFL scores are automatically added to applicant records as long as name and birth date can be matched.
The Graduate Record Examination prepared and administered by the Educational Testing Service, is required as part of the application for admission.
The University of Michigan requires a minimum TOEFL score for admission: 84 for the Internet Based TOEFL.
Three letters of recommendation in support of the student application must be submitted.

PhD Kinesiology Requirements
On this page we outline what you will need to meet the Kinesiology requirements for applying to the doctoral program in Movement Science or Sport Management. Rackham Graduate School and the Kinesiology Graduate Program team up to manage the application review process. As an applicant, you will be interacting with both offices. Applications must be submitted online via the U-M Rackham School of Graduate Studies website.
The School of Kinesiology is one of the 19 schools and colleges at U-M. Our graduate program is co-administered by the Rackham Graduate School. Rackham oversees the requirements and procedures and certifies the admission recommendation as appropriate. Unfortunately, we cannot admit you without an advisor.
Scholarships and financial aid available for Kinesiology and Exercise Science
Ph.D. Financial Aid
All Ph.D. students in the School of Kinesiology are considered for funding there is no separate application. The typical funding package includes a minimum of four years of funding, contingent on successful academic performance, teaching evaluations and progress toward your degree. This support includes tuition and stipend for four fall and four winter terms and year-round health benefits. Funding also includes a stipend for one summer term. The funding may come in the form of a graduate student instructor assistantship, a graduate research assistantship or fellowship. Additional funding may be available.
Full-term tuition at the School of Kinesiology is set by the U-M Office of the Registrar. Each year near the beginning of term, updated tuition and fees are posted on the Registrar website.
