This Organic Chemistry course, CHEM 1020, is designed to meet the organic chemistry prerequisite for individuals who are applying for admission to health profession programs. This organic chemistry class is a one semester course with a virtual laboratory that emphasizes those aspects of organic chemistry that are relevant to the study of human health and metabolism. Whenever possible, correlations to medicine, health, and disease will be made. These subjects include biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and pharmacology. Click here to view the syllabus. Organic Chemistry I is designed to take lecture (CHEM1020) and lab (CHEM1020L) concurrently in order to earn four credits. For the full four credits, you must register for both CHEM1020 and CHEM1020L. For students who only need a specific portion of Organic Chemistry I, however, you have the option to take lecture only (CHEM1020 three credits) or lab only (CHEM1020L one credit). Working at the pace typical for a four semester hour course, the average student will complete the Organic Chemistry I Course in approximately 16 weeks. Many students are nontraditional students who have elected an course for flexibility. Since the course is self-paced, you may complete the course in fewer than 16 weeks. Medical General Chemistry II with laboratory: CHEM 1011 must be completed before registering for this course.
