Education Master’s program at University of North Georgia

The University of North Georgia (UNG) offers a fully online Master of Education in Middle Grades Math and Science for in-service teachers to expand their knowledge in highly sought-after teaching fields.

This 12-course program can be completed in four consecutive semesters 16 months with a full-time enrollment. Courses are offered on a continuous basis allowing for part-time enrollment. All course-work, including exams, is done online.

Employment as a teacher in a Middle Grades classroom working with students at least 20 hours per week.

Clear renewable teaching certificate in Middle Grades Math or Middle Grades Science in the state of Georgia. Graduate Admissions will verify your certificate through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC).

Teachers certified in states other than Georgia may be eligible. To qualify, you must hold the equivalent of a Georgia clear renewable teaching certificate.

Pay with a credit debit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) or electronic check (U.S. banks only) when completing the online application.

Student paper transcripts are accepted only when issued to the student in a sealed envelope and submitted to Graduate Admissions unopened.

International transcripts must have a course-by-course credential evaluation by an independent evaluation service that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. Evaluations should be submitted from the evaluation service to Graduate Admissions.

Graduate Admissions will retrieve transcripts of coursework completed in-residence at UNG. You do not need to order official transcripts from UNG.

Policy requires all applicants accepted for admission or readmission to UNG seeking in-state for tuition classification provide validation of residency and lawful presence in both the state of Georgia and the United States.

May register for a maximum of nine semester hours of graduate credit.

Are not eligible for federal financial aid while enrolled in courses as a provisional student.

Will not be allowed to continue in the program if a grade of C or lower is earned in any graduate course.

May apply for readmission after three semesters from the date removed from the program because of a deficient grade by submitting a new application to Graduate Admissions with a letter addressed to the program coordinator requesting readmission.

The Master of Education in Middle Grades Math and Science program does not permit non-degree students.

Permission to take courses does not indicate or imply subsequent admission into the program.

Students must receive pre-approval from the program coordinator before enrolling in courses.

Students who wish to return as a transient student for a subsequent semester must reapply through Graduate Admissions.

Graduate Admissions will verify your certificate through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GAPSC).

International applicants who must be issued an F-1 visa by UNG to enter the United States to attend school may not apply for completely part-time (less than nine hours) or online programs. This program is only offered as an online program and therefore does not permit F-1 visa student admission.

Education requires current teacher certification. The University of North Georgia is unable to offer a path to enrollment for foreign nationals without current teacher certification in the United States.

A candidate whose application is denied has the right to appeal the decision. A written letter of appeal must include strong evidence to support the basis for your appeal. The appeal should consist of information beyond what was previously submitted in your admissions file and detail your ability to be successful in graduate studies.

Students are not eligible for financial aid while taking courses under a provisional admission status.

Students must have access to a middle grades classroom (grades 4 8) Math or Science to complete coursework.

Students conduct all work online, including team projects, exams, discussion posts, and case studies.

Students have access to online academic resources such as those available through UNG Library Technology Center.

Students must have high speed internet access. Courses are delivered via Desire to Learn (D2L) course management system.

All students are required to purchase the LiveText assessment program. Additional software may be required.

Course Registration:Registration is completed through the regular campus registration system, using your Banner log-in username and password.

Paying for Courses: This is important so that you are not dropped from your courses. You may view your invoice within your Banner account.

Accessing Courses:For GoVIEW GOML students, there is also a special course management system, Desire to Learn (D2L). Access your GeorgiaVIEW account by following the on screen instructions.

LiveText and your Program Portfolio: For your capstone, end-of-the-program project, you are required to complete a Program Portfolio. First, you will purchase a membership to an online management program called LiveText, Inc. This online product is a one-time purchase that is good for the length of the program and one year in the field.

VERY IMPORTANT STEP: Once you've purchased LiveText with University of North Georgia, because you'll be taking courses through Valdosta State University too, you'll need to register with both schools.

Your Program Portfolio: Your portfolio will be a collection of your work or 'artifacts' that you've completed in your courses. You will select work that best represents your performance but work that also aligns to the National Board for Professional Teachers standards. Your portfolio will also include a brief reflection in which you will make connections between the standards and your work. The template includes prompts to assist you in completing the portfolio. We recommend that you work on the portfolio throughout your program and not leave it for the end. Part of the fee for LiveText includes an online helpdesk. Take advantage of this service by using the email links in the lower right corner of every LiveText screen.
