This online certificate is designed for professionals who want to prepare for Project Management Institute (PMI®) certification and be effective team leaders. Courses focus on a variety of topics including project risk management, team leadership, and schedule, cost, and budget control, covering core competencies recognized by the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

Students with PMI® certifications can earn up to 45 PDUs per course. PSPM and PSLP courses are eligible.

Agile Project Management is now a requirement for the PMP certification and is a program requirement for the UVA certificate, as of Summer 2019. It is recommended that students in the current program plan take this course to adequately prepare for the PMP exam.

Introduces students to the various aspects of the project life cycle and project management. Explores best practices and the application of these best practices for project success.

PSPM 5200 Project Schedule, Cost Budget Control.

Concentrates on the variety of scheduling techniques (Gantt Chart, Critical Path Method, and Program Evaluation Review Technique) that can be used to guide and monitor project performance. Activities that are critical in preparing a realistic schedule are explored, discussed, and practiced. Students are then introduced to a variety of budgeting, cost estimating, and cost control techniques.

Introduces students to various concepts and techniques that can be used to effectively manage project risks including cost, schedule, technical, quality, managerial, and organizational.

PSPM 5230 Project Management: Leadership Managing the Project Team.

Analyzes the difference between leadership and management in the project management environment. Evaluates the role of the project manager as team leader, and reviews the application of various leadership and management techniques to project management.

PSPM 5290 Principles Practices of Agile Project Management.

Introduces Agile Project Management as an iterative and incremental method of managing the project design and build activities for engineering, information technology, and new product or service development projects in a highly flexible and interactive manner. Provides thorough exposure to agile and lean methods, and explores differences between these methods and traditional techniques.

Prepares today leaders for success in communication skills with diverse audiences, as well as effective team building and management. Communication topics address technical and non-technical audiences using presentations, interpersonal skills, and writing skills. Team development instruction focuses on managing teams, identifying and understanding the leadership role, the importance of shared leadership, and team decision making.

PSPM 5240 Introduction to Purchasing for Project Managers.

Project Management is not eligible for financial aid.
