By studying the cosmos beyond our own planet, we can understand where we came from, where we are going, and how physics works under conditions which are impossible to recreate on Earth. In astronomy, the Universe is our laboratory!

Beginning in 2020, the Department no longer accepts, nor considers, the Physics GRE as part of the university application process. Additionally, due to the disruptions posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, University of Virginia-Main Campus has opted not to accept the General GRE for this coming year
Do NOT worry this - simply state that applicant are receiving full out of state tuition and stipend support at the required levels from the Astronomy.
If research funds are limited then applicant can apply to teach one of the four astronomy courses that are offered in the summer.
