The interdisciplinary nature of the doctoral (Ph.D.) program stresses the relationship of architecture, urbanism, landscape, and building technologies to their cultural, social, and political milieu. Supported by strong affiliations with other departments in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences, the program has developed a comprehensive approach to the study of the field. Students interact with their peers to sustain their individual projects in a context of collective research.

Our alumni include New York first woman to receive a New York City Master Electrician license, the first person to be designated as Maryland biotechnology industry representative, and many other pioneers. For than 50 years, Stevens women have profoundly influenced our world, and continue to lead in a wide range of fields.

The Master of Architecture program emphasizes knowledge of humanist values as they impact contemporary design. It promotes the acquisition of comprehensive design skills through learning and doing — taking concepts and theories acquired in the classroom and using them in the real world.

The program addresses the increasing level of professional design services required in the 21st century, and the increasing globalization of architectural design. It utilizes its two locations in major urban areas — the New York/New Jersey metropolitan region, and Wenzhou, China — as resources for access to professional employment and training.
