The MS in Environmental Policy and Planning program at Tufts prepares students to be part of a new generation of leaders-'practical visionaries'-who will contribute to the development and promotion of inclusive, sustainable, and just communities. Students in the program will learn how to engage with and confront social and environmental challenges in today's world of rapid urbanization and climate change. Through academic coursework, applied fieldwork projects, work experience, and individual research, students will gain an understanding of environmental science as well as the skills needed to work toward effective policy and planning solutions.

The M.S. in Earth and Environmental Sciences degree involves coursework as well as a research-based thesis. The curriculum is adaptable, with a programme that is congruent with the student's background, career and research goals. Master's candidates in geology or geophysics are expected to have taken two semesters (or equivalent) of a college-level physics or chemistry course prior to admission, and must complete, or have completed, a minimum of two semesters of college-level calculus before completing their degree. Students are encouraged to broaden their knowledge by studying geology, geophysics, and environmental geosciences courses alongside other disciplines and mathematics.

The program is open to students pursing the major in either Earth Environmental Sciences (EES) or Environmental Analysis Policy (EAP). The MS is awarded in Remote Sensing Geospatial Sciences by the Graduate School of Arts Sciences (GRS).

Students receive the BA and MS degrees simultaneously.

Students in the Remote Sensing Geospatial Sciences BA MS program are required to complete a total of 38 courses (152 credits) while fulfilling all the requirements for both the CAS BA and the GRS MS programs.

Students may count two 4-credit courses toward the fulfillment of both degrees.

Courses at the 400 600 level that fulfill both BA and MS requirements may count toward both programs, but they must be taken at the 600 level.

In conjunction with the MS in Remote Sensing Geospatial Sciences, students are also encouraged to complete departmental honors in the major requirements during their final year of study.

Northeastern's MS in Environmental Science and Policy program prepares the next generation of environmental professionals with interdisciplinary training and problem-solving expertise. The program emphasizes a broadly interdisciplinary and synthetic approach that integrates knowledge in environmental science (conservation biology, biodiversity, and restoration ecology) with social sciences (environmental sociology, economics, and development), as well as humanities (environmental history, philosophy, and ethics).

Three separate degree tracks provide students with options for completion of an advanced degree.

A research degree track will require 12 units for completion. Under this track, students will complete nine units of work across their first three terms (12 to 15 months). Customize your degree with a concentration in atmospheric science or geoscience.

Students interested in weather forecasting, atmospheric pollution, wind energy and related topics should consider the atmospheric science option.

Students interested in the geo and environmental sciences should consider environmental geoscience.

This professional internship is required for students in this program and is expected to represent a minimum of 350 hours and will have a 3-6 month duration. The internship is designed to provide students with an opportunity to obtain real-world experience in business, government agencies, non-profit organizations or research institutes. To be eligible for the internship students will be expected to have completed half of their STEM courses, two business communication courses, attained a minimum GPA of 3.000 and received departmental permission. Through this experience the student engages in real-world work situations involving technical problems, teamwork, communication skills and decision-making. All students will be required to submit a final written report and give an oral presentation on their work at a seminar. All post-internship students will participate in this seminar.
