The Master of Arts in Christian Counseling is designed for those who want to deepen, reinvigorate and extend the work of the local church through the practice of counseling. Graduates will complete courses in biblical and theological studies and in counseling theory, helping them synthesize truths of the Christian faith with practical means to guide people struggling toward robust and lasting faith.

Students must also complete the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) II Content Assessments for School Counseling for licensure by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC). Students can enroll in January, May, or August. Students may pursue the degree on a part-time or full-time basis. Completion time is typically 30-36 months for a full-time student, though additional time may be necessary to satisfy field work.

Practice is given in utilizing current counseling principles in real-world settings through practicum and internship experiences. Candidates are equipped with strategies including cognitive, affective, behavioral or systemic interventions that address wellness, personal growth and crises. This base will provide candidates with competencies (as defined by CACREP and ACA) designed to positively impact a variety of people across K-12. It will be the responsibility of the candidate to determine what requirements may be in place in the state they choose to apply for a license.

The program wishes to recruit students from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate character, maturity, scholarship, leadership, church community involvement, and interest in the counseling profession. Students participating in the School Counseling Program receive training in the theories, models, and techniques of professional counseling with specialized preparation in work with students, parents, teachers, and administrators in the school setting. Students will develop the knowledge, skills, and practices of school counseling in order to provide competent care for differing populations within a multicultural and pluralistic society informed by the ASCA model.

A master degree in Counseling and Psychology, with a concentration in School Counseling, allows graduates to professionally help children at the elementary and secondary level. The counseling and consultation skills gained allow students to assist diverse individuals and groups deal with a wide range of personal, social, and academic issues, including choice-making.
