There are no than 12 students in any upper-level marine biology class. From internships to research, marine biology students hone their skills in the real world. The university diverse portfolio of courses educates students to take active roles as global citizens in preserving the health of the marine environment and prepares them for careers and advanced studies in biological research, environmental science, and conservation.

The Masters-only program is designed to prepare students for careers in marine science or biology. The majority of our graduates gain immediate employment as professional marine scientists, whereas a sizable minority goes on to further graduate work leading to a Ph.D. Located at the Grice Marine Laboratory on James Island, our program offers the unique opportunity to collaborate and work with a large, diverse group of dedicated marine scientists at the Fort Johnson Marine Science Center.

The BIOSII has advanced navigation, propulsion and is equipped to take students into the field for a variety of activities, including scuba diving, trawling, dredging and on-site study of marine and estuarine ecosystems. Several marine science courses take place in the facility during the academic year, including marine botany, marine zoology, invertebrate zoology, general ecology, marine ecology and ichthyology. The Marine Science Biology degree is one of the defining degrees at The University of Tampa. Students graduating with a marine biology degree are well prepared to enter the job market.

J​acksonville University's Master of Arts in Marine Science (MA in MSC), Master of Science in Marine Science (MS in MSC), and dual degree Master of Arts in Marine Science and Master of Public Policy degree programs are designed to provide graduates with the specific knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in a variety of marine-related positions in industry, government and education, or for entry into doctoral marine science programs.
