The School Psychology Doctoral Program is designed to be completed in four or five years of full-time study that culminates in a dissertation and a one-year, full-time internship. Coursework is aligned with NASP 10 Domains of Practice, which emphasizes consultation, assessment, prevention, mental health, and diverse populations.

The School Psychology Doctoral Program admits cohorts of five to seven students per year. Most students receive in the form of graduate assistantships to offset the cost of attendance and all graduates are fully employed as school psychologists.

The National Association of School Psychologists accredited School Psychology Doctoral Program at Minnesota State Mankato trains students to attain certification to practice as school psychologists and or pursue other doctoral level employment such as university teaching.

Uniquely qualified to support both students’ ability to learn and teachers’ ability to educate, school psychologists are important members of virtually every learning environment. The Master of Science (MS) in School Psychology degree program is of 2 years and provides learners with the basic training and building blocks to learn how to conduct assessments and interventions, as well as support students’ academic, behavioral, and mental health. The program is designed to meet the unique needs of a school psychology master’s student. Some unique features of this 53-credit program include:

• Emphasis on diversity and inclusion: Capella's school psychology program is designed to prepare students to work with students from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of needs. The program includes coursework on topics such as cultural competence, trauma-informed care, and special education. Students also have the opportunity to complete clinical practicums in diverse settings.
• Strong focus on research: Capella's school psychology program is research-intensive, and students are required to complete a master's thesis or capstone project. This gives students the opportunity to develop their research skills and to contribute to the field of school psychology.
• Flexible and convenient online format: Capella's school psychology program is offered in an online format, which makes it a convenient option for working adults and students with other commitments. Students can learn at their own pace and on their own schedule.
• Experienced and supportive faculty: Capella's school psychology faculty are experienced school psychologists who are passionate about teaching and mentoring students. Faculty members are available to provide students with support and guidance throughout the program.

Completion of Capella's MS in School Psychology program alone is not intended to adequately prepare learners to be eligible for licensure or certification as a school psychologist. MS in Psychology learners who are interested in pursuing state or national certification as a school psychologist should also complete a Capella EdS in School Psychology or PsyD in School Psychology.
