The UCLA Interdepartmental Program of American Indian Studies offers a Concentration Certificate in American Indian Studies to allow graduate students enrolled in UCLA departments, programs and professional schools to acquire expertise and a credential in American Indian Studies. The requirements for the American Indian Studies Concentration are in addition to requirements in the primary department or school, and should be completed before advancing to candidacy. Upon completion of the requirements, a Certificate is issued by the American Indian Studies.

Coursework is composed of four courses (16 units) as follows:.

A minimum of two AIS core courses (8 units) selected from American Indian Studies 201-208 series.

Grade of B+ or higher must be received in all courses taken for the concentration.

Please submit a copy of the course syllabus to the Academic Coordinator to request approval.

Please submit an unofficial transcript for review by the Academic Coordinator, upon completion of coursework.

Students will be expected to complete an essay on the interdisciplinary breadth of American Indian Studies in regard to their own research.

The American Indian Studies Department at the University of Washington advances and promotes knowledge integral to Native peoples through research, teaching, and community service. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.

American Indian Studies approaches its teaching and research from a decolonized, community-based, and global perspective. The American Indian Studies Department offers a major in American Indian Studies, a minor in American Indian Studies, a minor in Oceania and Pacific Islander Studies, and a graduate certificate in American Indian and Indigenous Studies. The Center aims to support research being done in American Indian and Indigenous Studies across all three UW campuses, as well as collaborations with the surrounding Native Community.

The certificate was created in response to community requests for continuing education opportunities and development of professional skills. Indian Country team, students have the opportunity to complete a paid 5-credit internship that allows students to build valuable work experience while getting the chance to work on Native causes with Native people. Students gain experience working with tribes, corporations, universities, environmental groups, and while applying the Indigenous systems of thought taught in American Indian Studies in the workforce.

The mission of the Tribal Sovereignty Institute (TSI) is to promote tribal sovereignty through education, outreach, research, tribal consultation and partnerships with Native Nations.

The TSI offers short course certificates, applied research, and serves as a hub for tribal-university engagement and partnerships.

Tribal-State Relations Training, as required by Minnesota Statute 10.65, prepares state agency employees with the knowledge and tools to consult with tribes on matters of mutual interest. The mission of the TSRT is to provide training and education for Minnesota state employees American Indian tribal governments, histories, cultures, and traditions in order to empower state employees to work effectively with American Indians, and promote authentic and respectful relationships between state agencies and American Indian tribes. This short course certificate program is made possible by a partnership between the Minnesota Transportation and UMD and is endorsed by the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council.
