The programs in Applied Behavior Analysis prepare students to work as practitioners of behavior analysis for individuals with a variety of social, academic and behavioral needs.

The College of Education, Health, and Human Services offers programs in behavior analysis that meet the Behavior Analyst Certification Board’s (BACB) course work requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) Examination or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Examination. Applicants will have to meet additional requirements to qualify.

Through coursework firmly grounded in theory, with an emphasis on application of theory to socially significant and effective practice, the BCBA certificate program provides students with an excellent foundation to meet the proficiencies mandated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Students will be prepared to complete the required supervised field work and sit for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) examination. Pass-rate data for University of Michigan-Dearborn candidates are not available at this time.

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is an individual with graduate certification in behavior analysis. BCBAs provide services within mental health, educational, and human services environments that may include collecting and analyzing data, conducting behavioral assessments, writing and evaluating behavior intervention plans, training others to implement components of treatment plans, and overseeing the implementation of treatment plans. BCBAs also provide supervision to Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT).

The Graduate Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in Applied Behavior Analysis prepares those with graduate degrees in another area to advance their careers with the coursework required to become a behavior analyst and the opportunity to specialize in another area.

This online program includes seven core courses in behavior analysis, and three courses in a related area chosen by the student. Students are given the option of completing supervised fieldwork on their own or by enrolling in courses that provide supervision through the Concentrated Supervised Fieldwork option.

The core courses in the program employ technologies in applied behavior analysis and best practice in online teaching and learning to provide learning experiences that will result in effective skill development, generalization, and maintenance. The specialization classes allow students to explore the application of behavioral principles in a given area of interest.

Asynchronous online program with optional synchronous components allow students to complete their degree in a way that works for their life and commitments.

Optional practicum courses allow students to accrue supervised fieldwork hours under the Concentrated Supervised Fieldwork option as described by the BACB.

The Purdue University College of Education’s online certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis prepares future behavior analysts who the science of behavior analysis across educational systems. The 21-credit program can be completed in as little as 1 year and offers students the opportunity to choose between two options, fully online or a hybrid model(mix of online and face-to-face).

The program has been verified to meet the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst Examination®. Applicants will have to meet additional requirements to qualify including completion of the required experience hours or additional state requirements.

The program operates in a cohort model fashion in which students, regardless of option, begin a systematic scope and sequence of coursework in the fall semester. The Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) provides professionals who have a background in education, psychology, and related services with expertise in behavior intervention and intensive educational interventions. ABA is a growing service sector with opportunities for employment in schools, universities, and independent clinics.

Students that complete the program will be eligible for national certification as Board Certified Behavior Analysts.

ABA encompasses a broad range of instructional and assessment techniques frequently used in academic, social, and mental health service contexts, as well as in support programs for individuals with disabilities. In addition to the course sequence offered through the certification program, obtaining the BCBA requires completion of a supervised practicum experience and successful completion of the behavior certification exam offered through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.

The certificate program develops students' skills in the behavioral intervention and intensive instruction. The course sequence contributes to eligibility for certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). All courses in the sequence have been verified by the Association of Behavior Analysis International (ABAI). In addition to the course sequence offered through the certification program, obtaining the BCBA requires completion of a supervised practicum experience and successful completion of the behavior certification exam offered through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.

The courses available through the Certificate in ABA are available through other plans of study offered through the College of Education or may be taken as electives. Degree students may take CABA courses without formally seeking a graduate certificate. Students who complete all courses in the CABA sequence will have satisfied the course sequence requirement necessary for national certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst regardless of whether they obtain the CABA.

ABA Certificate Program does not have a GRE requirement.

Complete the University of Iowa non-degree online application form. box, type that you are applying to complete the Certificate Applied Behavior Analysis. With this application you will have to pay a $40 admission fee and submit an official transcript.

Given submission of the appropriate materials, your enrollment application will be reviewed and the Coordinator of the Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis will be informed of your intentions.

Complete and submit the CABA Enrollment Form. The CABA will be added as a Program of Study in your academic record. You may complete the CABA form at the same time as you submit the non-degree online application form.

NOTE: You may, at any time, pursue admission into a graduate program at the University of Iowa. Having been enrolled in the CABA program will not guarantee acceptance into any graduate program at the University of Iowa.
