The Bilingual Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Graduate students have the opportunity to earn the Bilingual Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology. The program allows students to specialize in evidence-based methods of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of bilingual children and adults with speech, language, and hearing impairments. Students who earn this certificate will demonstrate knowledge of how the structure of common languages spoken in the United States compares and contrasts with English, appropriately assess and treat all languages in the bilingual or multilingual individual, train and implement the use of interpreters, and cultural awareness and sensitivity in the clinical setting. Monolingual and Bilingual students are invited to participate in Audiology, Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathology, Pathologist program. Proficiency in a second language is not required. In addition to the typical graduate curriculum, the certificate program requires the following graduate coursework (at least 9 units):. The speech and hearing sciences certificate provides a specialized credential in audiology or speech language pathology which could be used to for graduate work in audiology or speech language pathology also helps meet the academic requirements for licensure as an audiology assistant or a speech-language pathology assistant. It provides an understanding of the fundamentals of speech and hearing as well as an introduction to speech, language and hearing disorders. Certificates must contain at least nine credits of coursework that are unique to that program out of all other certificates and minors. A phonetics course is required but may be taken concurrently while in the certificate program.

This certificate program provides the opportunity to meet the requirements for SLPA authorization in the state of Colorado, through the Colorado Education to work in Colorado public schools. Candidates develop the knowledge and skills to work under the supervision of a certified SLP in the public school setting with ages 3-21. This certificate is appropriate for individuals with a BA in speech, language, and hearing sciences (SLHS), those completing a BA in SLHS (enrolled in their last semester of senior year at CU), or individuals with a BA in another field, who have completed or are completing equivalent leveling coursework (24 hours) through an approved SLHS department.
