While both programs develop research skills, an Executive Doctor of Business Administration is directed at research that advances business practice, while a PhD is directed at research that contributes first and foremost to theory. The Ph.D. in Business Administration offers the following concentrations: Accountancy, Decision Sciences, Finance, International Business, Management, Marketing, and Strategic Management and Public Policy. The Wisconsin Ph.D. Program in Actuarial Science, Risk Management, and Insurance is offered by the Risk and Insurance Department at the Wisconsin School of Business. All students must meet the general Ph.D. requirements of both the UW–Madison Graduate School and the Wisconsin School of Business. Within each business discipline theoretical underpinnings and applications are explored with systematic and quantitative techniques. It provides students with an understanding of the management of automated manufacturing systems including robotic systems, flexible manufacturing systems and assembly systems.
