For current employees in business or industry, the Graduate Certificate in Technical Communication may lead to an increase in job responsibilities and perhaps salary. Current graduate students at Auburn University may be able to pursue the Graduate Certificate in Technical Communication along with their other coursework. Further, students who find that they want to continue coursework in technical and professional communication after completing the Certificate, the 12 hours can be transferred into the MTPC program. The Certificate in Film and Media Studies is open to students already enrolled in a Ph.D. program at Yale. The aim is to provide graduate students in other programs, departments, and divisions with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate a degree of competence in the history and theory of film and media technologies. Interested students are strongly encouraged to register for the certificate by meeting with the director of graduate studies (DGS) during their first year.

The Graduate Certificate Program in Film and Media educates doctoral candidates of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences in the theory, aesthetics, and history of film, video, and other audio-visual media, including emergent objects of the digital age. Candidates acquire descriptive and analytical tools applicable to a broad number of research fields in which audiovisual media play a leading role. Requisite for admission are Introduction to Cinema I and II (AS061.140 and 061.141, 6 credits total) or their demonstrated equivalent from another accredited institution. Students are asked to enroll in the certificate program during the first two semesters of graduate study, although in some cases enrollment may be possible during the second year.

Students enrolled in the MA in Media and Public Communication are eligible to interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Public Diplomacy, a joint program with the Josef Korbel School of International Studies. The certificate allows students to combine classes in strategic communication and international relations and explore how governments and nongovernmental actors use mediated communication to inform, influence and engage in dialogue with international publics. Students choose a regional or thematic specialization based on their interests and prepare for careers in cultural diplomacy, nation branding, international public affairs, and health and development communication. Students in the master’s program are eligible to for the Graduate Certificate in Public Diplomacy, a joint program with the Josef Korbel of International Studies.
