M.A. in Psychology.

The M.A. in Psychology, Social and Community Psychology Concentration at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology® explores the application of psychological principles across roles, sectors, communities, and countries. Students will extend their knowledge and apply concepts of psychology in practical, real-world contexts, gaining a theoretical and practical understanding of how culture, gender, identity, bias, and immersion impact communities, social justice, and global psychology. This concentration is only offered in Spanish. The Master of Arts in Psychology, Social and Community Psychology Concentration students will take 21 credit hours in foundational psychology, 6 credit hours in an applied research project, and 9 credit hours of social and community psychology online course.

In addition, the M.A. in Psychology, Social and Community Psychology Concentration online degree program provides a strong stepping-stone to doctoral work.

This course lays a theoretical and experiential foundation for students in multicultural psychology. The course blends exposure to theory and literature, cross-cultural immersion, and personal introspection. It provides a basic framework for understanding privilege and power, systems of oppression and domination, worldview, cultural competency, and identity. It will explore the impact and social construction of culture, gender, ethnicity, religion spirituality, class, race, ableness, and immigrant status. Students will address the intersection of multiple identities and will explore the impact of their own culture and held personal stereotypes, beliefs, and assumptions. (3 credits).

This course examines the interrelationship between gender and psychology. Topics include: gendered topics in psychology, masculine ideology, post modern feminist research, and cross-cultural perspectives on gender. (3 credits).

This course examines the dimensions of acculturation across multiple cultures. Topics include: psychological models of ethnic identity, psychological adaptation to multiple cultures, and the relationship between acculturation and mental health. (3 credits).
