This state-approved certificate program is designed to enable educators to create and run a makerspace, become proficient in maker-based projects, and explore maker-centered pedagogy for STEM-rich learning. This unique graduate certificate program is perfect for K-12 educators, librarians, media specialists, woodshop teachers, college educators, technology enthusiasts and those interested in STEM or STEAM. It is offered by the Rutgers Center for Mathematics, Science, and Computer Education in partnership with the Rutgers Graduate School of Education.
Hybrid option allows students to utilize Rutgers Makerspace to support their learning. Students who elect a 100% online option are required to use their local makerspace and or maker tools.
The program is offered in hybrid format, with live classes (virtual and or face-to-face) alternating weekly with asynchronous, virtual classes. Live classes are held one day per week from late afternoon to early evening. A 100% online option is also available if students have access to a local makerspace or maker tools.
Non-credit option: Students may elect to earn a non-credit certificate.

The lessons from these courses far extend the classroom and helped me advance in my career as a school library media specialist. When my district learned my knowledge gathered from the program, they put me in charge of designing, budgeting, and opening our new makerspace.

This certificate program provides essential skills for computing professionals interested in designing and developing a variety of software systems. This includes the theoretical foundations of computer science and practical applications of database design, programming and software engineering.
The curriculum focuses on the core skillset needed by all computer science professionals: logic and discrete math, programming, and data management. Participants will learn evaluate important computer algorithms, build and maintain efficient database systems, and gain the advanced programming skills to continue their software development career. The program consists of 4 courses of 3 credits each, taught over 2 semesters of 15 weeks each. Instruction includes formal lectures as well as hands-on coding projects.
In this program, we make use of software tools such as MySQL, integrated development environments like Eclipse, and various high-level programming languages (C++, Java, and Python).
The program curriculum covers tools and technologies such as OpenSSL, Wireshark, Rainbow tables, Blockchains, and Certificate Transparency.
