The Conservation Biology PhD program prepares students for independent research and roles within industry, nongovernmental organizations, academia or government sectors combining biological sciences with disciplines such as economics, law, urban rural planning, politics, communication, philosophy and environmental engineering.

The Conservation Biology PhD program provides an interface between traditional biological sciences and the areas of economics, law, urban and rural planning, politics, communication, philosophy and environmental engineering. The purpose of this training is to produce scientists capable of doing independent research and the ability to work within the broader area of environmental politics, law and economics to communicate issues of conservation biology to policy makers, the general public and industry.

Students will choose one of two specializations: Conservation Biology or Integrative Biology. The Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology (EECB) Ph.D. or M.S. programs are for students who want to build in-depth understanding of ecosystems and the organisms that inhabit them - and help shape policies that respect these natural wonders.

The programs are designed to prepare graduates for high-level careers as scientists and researchers. For both program, career goals may include positions within public agencies, such as government land bureaus with private organizations, such as social advocacy groups even in academia.

Students in these programs also enjoy access to numerous departmental laboratories, as well as several research centers, including the Chemical Ecology Center, the Nevada Genomics Center, the Whittell Forest and Wildlife Area Little Valley Field Station and the Valley Road Field Laboratory.

In addition to thegeneral requirements required by the Graduate School, the EECB program requires the following:.

Biology coursework (24 credits, including genetics, evolution, and ecology), or equivalent evidence of ability to succeed in a doctoral program in ecology, evolution and conservation biology.

This is a great way to get information our program, generally, and their lab, specifically. This is not required, but recommended.

The handbook provides the necessary information for students to understand the requirements, expectations and opportunities associated with this graduate program.
