Cizik School of Nursing Emergency Trauma Care concentration focuses on different aspects of emergency care and is offered as a post-master certificate or as an add on concentration to the Family Nurse Practitioner MSN. Students enrolled in the program will focus on patient presentations in emergency departments and acute ambulatory care settings including resuscitative trauma. Additionally, students will acquire knowledge in high acuity emergency presentations including management of chronic disease exacerbation. Post-Master Certificate Advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) are eligible to as a post-master’s program applicant. Upon completion, students will receive a post-master certificate issued from the School of Nursing. A transcript noting the courses taken will also be available. Post-Master Certificate Any Advanced Practice RN looking to enroll as a post-master’s student must meet the minimum admission requirements and submit the application for admission as a non-degree student. All potential post-master’s students must be nationally certified by ANCC or AANPCP as an FNP.

Post-Master’s Certificate in Emergency Care for Family Nurse Practitioners. The goal of the Post-Master’s Certificate in Emergency Care for Family Nurse Practitioners is to prepare graduates for successful practice in the rapidly evolving field of emergency care. The program provides didactic and clinical knowledge to care for patients across the life span in emergency care settings. Career opportunities include emergency departments (EDs), critical access hospitals, fast-track EDs, freestanding urgent care clinics, convenient care clinics, and correctional facilities. Graduates are eligible to sit for the Emergency Nurse Practitioner Certification (ENP-C) examination through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB).

Each student at Cizik School of Nursing is assigned a primary advisor at the time of admission to the program. The student and the academic advisor will complete a plan to specify which courses are to be taken to complete the certificate requirements. If accepted into the ETC program, Dr. Ramirez will serve as secondary advisor and will work closely with the primary advisor to ensure that degree requirements are clearly established and adhered to for both programs.
