The graduate endodontics program is a continuous 24-month Master of Science in Dentistry and certificate program commencing the beginning of July each year. The program is concerned with developing competent, skilled clinicians with teaching and research competence.

To achieve these objectives, the program provides an extensive background in both scientific and clinical knowledge. The curriculum is designed to fulfill the requirements of the American Board of Endodontics and promote Diplomates.

The program prepares specialists in the fields of diagnosis, all phases of treatment, and prevention of pulpal and periapical dental disease.

A top of the line surgical microscope is required by the program for teaching a variety of microscopic surgery techniques.

The residency program fulfills all standards described by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) for specialty training in Endodontics.

The advanced dental education program in Endodontics prepares dentists for the specialized practice of endodontics. Residents receive intensive clinical training under close supervision at the multidisciplinary Postgraduate Clinic in the School of Dental Medicine. Didactic courses cover biological sciences and a wide range of clinical topics related to endodontics. Integrated into the program are experiences in teaching and research. A report based on original research in clinical endodontics or related basic science is required.

Endodontics Endodontology is officially registered with the New York State Education Department (SED).

Online programs courses may require students to come to campus on occasion. Time-to-degree is based on calendar year(s).

The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association and also fulfills the educational requirements for specialty board certification by the American Board of Endodontics.

The full-time, 24-month program admits five exceptional applicants each September, who must remain in continuous residency for the duration of the program.

The first year of the program focuses on the didactic component, which consists of multiple seminar courses that involve extensive analysis of primary scientific literature in endodontics, and a series of biomedical science courses taken with graduate students from other clinical specialty programs at the dental school.

The second year focuses on patient care activities. Clinical training and experience is provided in all acceptable treatment modalities in clinical endodontics, with clinical proficiency attained in all phases of endodontic therapy. This includes the use of various types of endodontic instrumentation, nonsurgical obturation techniques and endodontic surgery.

Students in the program have the opportunity to treat a vast, highly diverse patient pool with a wide range of endodontic treatment needs.

To comprehensively prepare competent residents to initially practice endodontics.

Objective 1. To provide the residents with an in-depth foundation knowledge of relevant biomedical, clinical, and behavioral sciences as they correlate to the theory and practice of endodontics.

Objective 2. To provide the residents with a sufficient number of diagnostic, nonsurgical and surgical clinical experiences, which will result in being proficient and competent in the practice of endodontics.

Objective 5. To prepare the residents with knowledge and skills for the certification by the American Board of Endodontics.

Create the desire and sense of obligation and responsibility to contribute to the perpetuation and growth of the field of endodontics.

Objective 12. To prepare all residents so that they may obtain practice, teaching and administrative positions associated with the discipline of endodontics.

Objective 13. To provide the residents with the training necessary to teach endodontics at all levels.

Objective 14. To inspire residents to support, serve and contribute to the perpetuation and growth of the field of endodontics.

Students in the Graduate Endodontics Program apply for the Master of Science in Oral Health Sciences upon acceptance to the program.

Through the interdisciplinary curriculum, students study the structure, development and function of oral tissues their interrelationships and their connections to other organ systems. Research areas include advanced general dentistry, clinical fields, and periodontal and craniofacial regeneration.

Coursework in students' postgraduate certificate programs count toward the required 30 credits for the Oral Health Sciences MS degree.

Residents in the Endodontics Specialty Certificate program acquire valuable teaching experience through supervising predoctoral dental students in the endodontic preclinical lab and in the endodontic predoctoral clinic.

The Specialty Certificate in Endodontics includes clinical and didactic instruction over a 24-month period. The didactic component of the program consists of multiple seminar courses that involve extensive reading and analysis of the primary scientific literature in endodontics, and a series of basic biomedical science courses jointly taken with graduate students from other clinical specialty programs.
