For students who have a desire to move into higher education or become highly proficient within a narrow field of expertise, a doctor of philosophy degree may be the best choice. Areas of discipline available to Ph.D. candidates are:.

1PhD students are required to take 1 hour of Forestry and Natural Resources Seminar Series (FANR 8060).

2Fisheries and Wildlife students only: 1 hour of graduate seminar (e.g., WILD(FISH) 8300, ECOL 8220, CBIO 8490, etc.) is required.

3FANR 9990 (Supervised Teaching Practicum in Forestry and Natural Resources) must be taken for one credit hour if student does not enroll in FANR 8900 (University Teaching in Forestry and Natural Resources).

4PhD students without an MS degree must take an additional 4 hours in courses open only to graduate students.

Note: Students matriculating in fall 2022 or later are required to take a GradFIRST (GRSC 7001) seminar during their first or second semester. GradFIRST seminars are scheduled for fall semesters than spring (no summer offerings). but is in addition to the courses required for degree completion.

Baruch Institute of Coastal Ecology And Forest Science.

The Forest Resources (FORR) Program is housed within the Forestry and Environmental Conservation. The Program offers three degree options: Master of Forest Resources (MFR), Master of Science (MS), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Enrollment in these programs is open to students who have earned a baccalaureate degree in forestry, forest products, or a related field.

The MFR is a non-thesis, terminal degree that may be suited for students who will pursue a career in business, education, or other areas that do not require substantial research experience.

The PhD and MS are research degrees that require a dissertation and thesis, respectively.

A Bachelor of Science in a FORR-related discipline is desirable, but not required.

GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores are not required for application.

The FORR Program follows Graduate School minimum degree requirements for credit hours (including research credits), time limits, and theses dissertations.

A minimum of 12 credit hours of non-research coursework and a minimum of 18 hours of dissertation research are required for any doctoral degree.

The Plan of Study varies by degree and is tailored to each student needs and interests. Students within all Forest Resources graduate degrees take two semesters of Graduate Seminar (FNR 8080 or equivalent). Students may be required to correct deficiencies in their academic background by auditing or by enrolling in supplemental courses.

Most students in our research-based degree programs (MS, PhD) are supported through Research Assistantships (RA).

Students on these assistantships will be expected to TA for the Master of Wildlife and Fisheries Resources (online) degree program one semester each year.

A Forest Resources degree from Clemson is designed to provide students with advanced training for scientific-based management of forest resources, products, and services. Graduates from the program are working in both private and public spheres to help ensure sustainability and quality of resources including timber, water, and recreational value on natural lands. Our graduates are employed by:.

Private consulting firms (such as American Forest Management and Corblu Ecology).

Federal and state agencies (such as US Agriculture and South Carolina Forestry Commission).

Forest products industry (such as Industrial Paper and Milliken Forestry).

Forest Engineering allows students to choose one of the following as their major field of study: forest resources management recreation, parks, and tourism resources wood science and technology, or wildlife and fisheries resources.

Course work for varies depending upon the career goals of the student, past course history, and educational needs for the intended research project. Typically all students take 2 semesters of Statistics (STAT 511 and 512) and an advanced GIS class or as advised by their graduate committee.

Forest Engineering focuses on human dimensions of recreation, tourism and natural resources. We include a diverse group of publics in our training, research, and technical assistance programs such as policy-makers, tourists, communities, resource managers, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, and private landowners. We aim to understand how human and organizational values, perceptions, attitudes, and behavior shape and are shaped by recreation, tourism, and natural resource management systems.

The Wildlife and Fisheries Resources Program at WVU is dedicated to developing the next generation of young fisheries and wildlife professionals. Students typically focus on either Wildlife or Fisheries for this advanced degree, and are required to complete necessary coursework to obtain professional certification as a biologist by The Wildlife Society or The American Fisheries Society by the time of graduation.

Forest Engineering is designed to prepare students for the challenges of a wood products industry career. Graduate students enrolling in wood science will be expected to have taken WDSC 223, Wood Anatomy and Structure, WDSC 232, Primary Conversion and Grading, and WDSC 401, Field Trip or their equivalents.

Curriculum requirements for all candidates include a block of graduate requirements course in the major field, which will constitute a comprehensive review of the significant knowledge in that field, and a block of graduate courses in a minor field of study. The research work for the doctoral dissertation must show a high degree of scholarship and must present an original contribution to the field of forest resources science. In addition to course work and the dissertation, the candidate is required to pass a qualifying examination and a final examination.

The College of Natural Resources, Forest Sustainable Products program at the University of Idaho is accepting applications for potential Ph.D. and M.S. research assistantships. We are looking for highly qualified candidates committed to pursuing graduate degrees (M.S. and Ph.D.) focused on Forest Sustainable Products.

The College of Natural Resources, Rangeland Ecology Management program at the University of Idaho is accepting applications for a graduate research assistantship in plant sciences (Ph.D preferred). Sagebrush steppe pant communities and the fauna that are supported by the plant communities are negatively impacted by nonindigenous annual grasses. Conservation of sagebrush steppe is enhanced through management of these annual grasses to prevent fire, allow seed bank mediated restoration, and to enhance survival of native plants reseeded because of depleted seed banks.
