I work in film production, but over the years I've found it necessary to do and video editing. I needed to learn the Adobe programs to feel comfortable working with and creating different files that are used when editing video.
This program has taught me of what the Adobe programs help you accomplish. I learned tricks and tips on editing photos and creating logos.
I learned so much basic design elements such as color, repetition, proximity, alignment, typography, etc. But learning the tools within each program was very, very valuable. I know get going.

Motion graphics is an emerging art form and industry that combines traditional typography and design techniques with film, video, and animation techniques to create a unique hybrid.

This credit program provides a sound education in graphic design theory, technology and application. Students completing the certificate will be well versed in industry standard software, including PhotoShop, Freehand, Dreamweaver, Flash and Quark on the industry accepted platform of MacIntosh. As a culminating experience, students will develop a professional level portfolio and personal promotional materials.

The Graphic Design Certificate is designed for students with an interest in exploring graphic design with an emphasis on print media. Participants employ analog and digital processes and may elect to work across disciplines as they develop a portfolio of work that represents their personal voice and demonstrates the technical, critical, and analytical skills required of the field.
Students enrolled in the Graphic Design Certificate should have access to a Mac or PC computer with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop installed.
Studio Courses (4): Four 30-hour courses from those listed under the subject heading Graphic Design you may also use Color Theory as one of your required studio courses To find current courses in this category.
Electives (1): All 30-hour Adult Continuing Education courses are eligible electives for all certificates, including 1-week and 2-weekend intensives.

Completion of the Graphic Design Certificate requires a portfolio review, fulfilled by participation in Portfolio Review Days offered in the fall and spring. Students will also need to complete the certificate program completion form, submit high-quality digital images of their work, and take part in a brief exit interview to receive their digital certificate.

This course explores methods for generating original solutions to creative problems faced in graphic design. The importance of research and research methods is also emphasized. Prerequisite: None.
This course analyzes the fundamental elements and principles of design necessary to solve graphic design problems. Topics including various elements and principles are studied and practiced. Problem solving and critical thinking are developed through discussions and exercises.
This course introduces students to key Adobe software applications. The course addresses the individual tools each application offers, techniques associated with each tool or set of tools, and the proper application of each technique. Students will also be familiarized with various skills necessary for a designer including time tracking, invoicing, and contracts.
This course examines the history of contemporary graphic design. Students study famous designers and design movements and develop the ability to compare and contrast their work. Prerequisite: None.
This course examines basic fundamentals specific to print design. Topics explored include typography, grid implementation, layout, balance, and color. Students are introduced to the design process and employ it taking a project from initial idea to final print. Prerequisite: GD116, GD210, GD211.
This course examines basic fundamentals specific to web design. Topics include web standards, user interface design, pattern libraries, HTML and CSS. Prerequisite: GD116, GD210, GD211.

The 12 credits gained in the Graphic Design Certificate program will count towards the B.F.A. in Graphic Design program should a student wish to seek admission for this program following the successful completion of the certificate program.
The Graphic Design Certificate program can be completed online in two semesters, taking two 15-week online courses (six credits) each semester.
PLEASE NOTE: Semester 1 courses must be taken before Semester II Courses. Semester 1 courses will be offered in Fall 2022.
