This course provides a solid base in exploring image text relationships in graphic design. Students will be introduced to type classifications along with some modern and postmodern design theories. Practical design assignments guided by class critiques will help you develop your own personal style. Class demos will include Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
Design pictograms and learn gestalt principles of design through figure ground relationships, similarity, continuation, closure, proximity and symmetry. Projects in this class will help you to develop skills to create graphics that are based on a matrix and design a cohesive series of pieces. The program is part-time and runs in a flexible hybrid format with both on-campus and online course sessions. Interested students should expect to commit 2-week nights per week for class attendance, as well as 4-5 hours of outside of class work time. I work in film production, but over the years I've found it necessary to do and video editing. I needed to learn the Adobe programs to feel comfortable working with and creating different files that are used when editing video.
This program has taught me of what the Adobe programs help you accomplish. I learned tricks and tips on editing photos and creating logos.
I learned so much basic design elements such as color, repetition, proximity, alignment, typography, etc. But learning the tools within each program was very, very valuable. I know get going.

Motion graphics is an emerging art form and industry that combines traditional typography and design techniques with film, video, and animation techniques to create a unique hybrid.

This credit program provides a sound education in graphic design theory, technology and application. Students completing the certificate will be well versed in industry standard software, including PhotoShop, Freehand, Dreamweaver, Flash and Quark on the industry accepted platform of MacIntosh. As a culminating experience, students will develop a professional level portfolio and personal promotional materials.

Students will also need to complete the certificate program completion form, submit high-quality digital images of their work, and take part in a brief exit interview to receive their digital certificate.

This course introduces students to key Adobe software applications. This course examines the history of contemporary graphic design. Students study famous designers and design movements and develop the ability to compare and contrast their work. Prerequisite: None.
This course examines basic fundamentals specific to print design. Topics explored include typography, grid implementation, layout, balance, and color. Students are introduced to the design process and employ it taking a project from initial idea to final print. Prerequisite: GD116, GD210, GD211.

The 12 credits gained in the Graphic Design Certificate program will count towards the B.F.A. in Graphic Design program should a student wish to seek admission for this program following the successful completion of the certificate program.
The Graphic Design Certificate program can be completed online in two semesters, taking two 15-week online courses (six credits) each semester.
