With challenges such as globalization, regional and ethnic conflict, environmental degradation, resource scarcity, demographic stress, global climate change and wide disparities in global economic development and global public health among others, the world is increasingly complex. Now than ever, students need to be prepared to confront the complexities of these international challenges with interdisciplinary understandings. The Five College IR certificate program is designed for students who want to make connections between their field of study and the global challenges. Each year, than 50 students from the Five Colleges earn their certificate. Many have gone into international relations careers in government, non-governmental organizations, business, academia and journalism.

After admission to UM-Dearborn, the Office of International Affairs will issue a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20 or DS-2019) upon receipt of the required financial documentation (see below). This Certificate of Eligibility, and other documentation, is needed to for your F or J nonimmigrant visa. Applicants who plan to enroll as an F1 or J1 visa student must provide additional information upon offer of admission to the Office of International Affairs (OIA). In order for OIA to issue an I-20 DS-2019, you must submit a Financial Affidavit Form and an original bank certification (in English) from your er, converted to U.S. dollars, showing that the account balance of the er meets the minimum amount listed on the affidavit form to cover the tuition, fees, and living expenses you will incur while attending UM-Dearborn. Estimated annual expenses can be found on the affidavit.

International Affairs Graduate Credit Certificate Program All applicants submit an application (including payment of the nonrefundable application fee), two letters of recommendation, and a personal statement addressing their reasons for pursuing a certificate in international affairs and discussing their plans and goals. Certificate Requirements The 12-credit program offers a unique balance of academic study, hands-on training, and professional development it includes 6 credits of core courses, 3 credits in additional core courses or SIA electives, and 3 credits in additional 500 or 800 level courses. In some cases, at the discretion of the certificate program head, substitution of a relevant course from an appropriate unit may be possible. All courses must be taken for a letter grade with at least 3.0 grade-point average maintained no grades below a C will be counted toward the certificate. Courses Graduate courses carry numbers from 500 to 699 and 800 to 899. Courses below the 400 level may not. A graduate student may register for or audit these courses in order to make up deficiencies or to fill in gaps in previous education but not to meet requirements for an advanced degree.

Certificates must contain at least nine credits of coursework that are unique to that program out of all other certificates and minors. The international relations certificate is for those who are interested in international affairs and who are considering careers in this field (e.g., working for the U.S. government foreign policy or intelligence agencies foreign policy think tanks international non-governmental organizations). The international relations certificate requires a combined 3.0 GPA for all certificate coursework. While successful completion of this 18-credit program will qualify students for the certificate, most graduate programs, foreign service organizations, and private corporations will be looking for individuals with broader training. Therefore, students are encouraged to pursue related study in other political science fields and other departments. Students interested in U.S. foreign policy, for example, should consider taking courses in American government. Likewise, students interested in international trade or finance would do well to pursue coursework in economics.

George Washington University graduate certificate programs give students the opportunity to study international affairs topics outside their chosen fields. Students enrich their academic programs with an in-depth exploration of today most relevant global issues. U.S. citizens may for a stand-alone graduate certificate. The student may count toward the master’s degree program up to nine credit hours completed while enrolled in the graduate certificate program. However, under this option, the student would be enrolled only in the M.A.program and would not receive a graduate certificate. If the graduate certificate program student would like to complete both an M.A. program and the graduate certificate program, only six credit hours can be double-counted across the two programs. No transfer credits from other academic institutions will be accepted in the certificate program.

Offer a Certificate in International Veterinary Medicine for DVM students. University of Georgia interdisciplinary Certificate in International Veterinary Medicine (CIVM) program serves to familiarize students with issues and opportunities in this field in a comprehensive manner, through coursework and externships.
