Courses that are part of certificate programs include a required assessment. Passing criteria is determined by the instructor and is provided to learners at the start of the course. GTPE certificates of program completion consist of a prescribed number of required and elective courses offered and completed at Georgia Tech within a consecutive six-year period. Exceptions, such as requests for substitutions or credit for prior education, can be requested through the petition form. Exceptions cannot be guaranteed. Construction Safety and Health Certificate Program (Atlanta campus courses only). Project Management Certificate Program (Atlanta campus courses only). Safety and Health Management Certificate Program (Atlanta campus courses only). GTPE does not issue transcripts or certificates with Professional Develop Hours (PDH) or Professional Development Units (PDU), but the crosswalk here is provided for reference. Upon successful completion of most GTPE courses (80% minimum attendance and a passing grade in courses that require an assessment), you may receive a certificate indicating the number of CEUs earned. Certificate issuance exceptions include courses with outstanding credentialing entities (i.e. OSHA or PADI). For an audit of your transcript for progress toward completion of a certificate, please complete the transcript request form. GTPE courses do not provide academic or degree credit. Georgia Tech academic or degree credit is only available to matriculated students taking courses that meet degree requirements.

Graduate Credit Certificate in Laser-Materials Processing and Laser-Based Manufacturing. The Graduate Credit Certificate Program in Laser-Materials Processing and Laser-Based Manufacturing prepares engineers to integrate laser-materials processing into the concurrent design and manufacturing of multiscale components and systems of the future. It offers a multidisciplinary curriculum drawing upon the strengths of several Penn State engineering departments and the Penn State Applied Research Laboratory. There is no special category for a certificate-seeking student. Individuals must complete the Postbaccalaureate Graduate Certificate Application. A certificate student’s status will be classified as nondegree unless the student is currently enrolled in a degree program, in which case, the degree status will remain as is. An applicant who is also applying for admission to a degree program must complete both a degree application and a Postbaccalaureate Graduate Certificate Application and pay the application fee for both.

This certificate requires nine (9) credits earned by taking three 3-credit graduate courses as outlined below. Satisfactory completion of the certificate will require three graduate courses (as detailed below) earning passing grades (C or better in any course with an overall certificate GPA of 3.0). The graduate certificate courses can be taken for credit with standard grading (A, B, etc.) or on a Pass Fail basis. Courses in which the student earns a grade of B or better would be transferable as electives into a graduate mechanical engineering degree program. If the certificate program participant already holds a graduate degree and does not intend to use the courses toward any future degree program, then the participant may elect to take the courses Pass Fail, still earning the graduate credits required for the certificate however, those credits would not be considered transferable into a graduate degree program. This certificate program is offered by the University of Delaware’s Mechanical Engineering and is administered through the Professional Engineering Outreach Program.

The Graduate Certificate in Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) is designed for working professionals who do not have formal training in MSE, but wish to acquire a basic understanding of materials science. The program requires four courses (12 credit hours) and can be completed in two semesters. Most people enroll as distance education students. Required courses include the core course MSE 500 (3 credit hours) and three MSE elective courses (9 credit hours) selected by the student. Students may customize their particular program to focus on specific areas of materials science that interest them. To be admitted to the MSE Graduate Certificate Program, a student must have a B.S. degree in the sciences or engineering from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and have an overall (or major) GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale. By judicious selection of elective courses, students can customize their certificate program to focus on areas of interest to them.

The Certificate in Pharmaceutical Technology yields a stand-alone credential, which is a milestone in its own right, and it is also a springboard to the PhEn Master’s degree. Both the Pharmaceutical Technology Graduate Certificate and the Pharmaceutical Engineering MS program have been designed so that people with different backgrounds can be admitted to the program. Nevertheless the programs are strongly oriented toward the ENGINEERING component of Pharmaceutical Engineering . In addition, since the pharmaceutical industry is a chemistry-based industry a chemical engineering background is the most appropriate to enter the program. This implies that applicants who have a science background (e.g., a chemistry or pharmacy B.S. degree) or an engineering degree in a discipline other than chemical engineering will have to take a bridge program.
