The Doctor of Nursing Education (DNE) is a novel professional nursing doctoral degree program to prepare expert nursing educators in teaching-learning, evidence-based practice, innovation, health, wellness and resilience.

The proposed DNE program will prepare expert nursing educators dedicated to teaching the didactic and clinical skills to prepare the next generation of nurses.

There are two specialization tracks proposed within the DNE program: academic nursing education and nursing professional development, each with track-specific coursework within the core DNE curriculum. Learners investigate the roles and responsibilities of nurse educators in higher education and hospital-based clinical settings, differentiating between roles in these two settings. For the hospital-based clinical educator, topics include clinical site responsibilities, professional and staff development, and the importance of student preceptors and mentors. Cannot be fulfilled by transfer.

Learners research nursing curriculum elements and model construction. Learners also evaluate the accreditation process and the influence of accreditation requirements on curriculum development. In general, students are continuously registered in the dissertation doctoral study course until they complete their capstone project and it is approved. This usually takes longer than the minimum required terms in the dissertation doctoral study course shell.

Students must also publish their dissertation on ProQuest before their degree is conferred.

These are ranges of what a student can expect in terms of time and tuition cost to complete a degree. It does not include other fees, nor is it adjusted for tuition increases over time. Time is calculated using the time allowed for each semester or unit that the student completes. Walden believes that it is in the best interest of a student who is unable to complete the degree in the stated ranges to strongly consider withdrawal or obtaining a lesser degree.
