This course introduces students to the design of wood structures. Wood structures may be constructed of sawn lumber, glulam, or engineered wood products. The primary focus in this class is on light-framed low-rise wood buildings constructed of sawn lumber or glulam, but concepts related to heavy timber-framed structures and tall wood buildings using cross-laminated timber (CLT) are introduced. Structural behavior under gravity and lateral loads is emphasized, as are analysis and design of the components within the gravity and lateral load resisting systems. The current version of the National Design Specification (NDS) for Wood Construction is used. A background in Steel Design or Reinforced Concrete Design is required.

Wood-Based Composite Science: Wood Adhesion Science and Technology.

In this Wood Adhesion Science and Technology course, you'll receive an introduction to adhesion science and technology with an introduction to basic chemical concepts, surface chemistry, polymer science, polymer analysis, and also to some commercially significant wood adhesives and topics specific to those adhesives.

Wood science and technology experts, selected from top universities, government research labs and industry, teach the course seven modules.
