Graduate Certificate Programs in Pediatric Dentistry/Pedodontics

The advanced two-year Certificate of Achievement Program in Pediatric Dentistry trains dentists in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. To fulfill this mission, the student is educated in the biomedical sciences and the supporting clinical sciences to the extent that the student is proficient in providing both primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral healthcare for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special healthcare needs.

The aim of the pediatric dentistry predoctoral program is to introduce students to basic principles of pediatric care and teachings through lectures, workshops, and clinical rotations. Pediatric instruction is offered in the second, third, and fourth years as a dental student.

Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) in Pediatric Dentistry.

The goal of the Boston University Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry is to prepare specialists who are competent in providing both primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs, in the context of family, culture, and community. Residents are trained to provide services in institutional, private, and or public health settings.

The program is fully accredited by the Commission.

The CAGS in Pediatric Dentistry is a 24-month, University-based, postgraduate program.

SDM PD 822 Advanced Seminar in Pediatric Dentistry.

SDM PD 824 Advanced Case Presentations in Pediatric Dentistry.

Completion is not tracked by credit accumulation but by successful completion of individual courses and duration requirements.

This two year certificate trains students in the advanced diagnostic and clinical techniques necessary to provide specialty care to children, adolescents, and individuals with disabilities.

The advanced dental education program in Pediatric Dentistry is a hospital-based program and consists of unique rotation sites where residents become proficient working in a variety of clinical environments. Residents gain extensive experience treating patients of all ages, cultures and healthcare needs.

Pediatric Dentistry Pedodontics is officially registered with the New York State Education Department (SED).

Online programs courses may require students to come to campus on occasion. Time-to-degree is based on calendar year(s).

The Pediatric Dentistry Post-Graduate Program is a continuous, 24-month program, based upon the fiscal year, July 1st through June 30th. The program provides a full range of clinical experiences in pediatric oral health care, which is supported by an in-depth, critical and scholarly appraisal of the pediatric dental specialty knowledge base.

The residents are exposed to extensive clinical opportunities in all phases of behavior management, conscious sedation, hospital surgery center pediatric oral rehabilitation dentistry, management of patients with special needs, management of dentoalveolar and circumoral trauma, as well as, orthodontic diagnosis, treatment planning, and provision of age appropriate, orthodontic therapy. Residents participate in scholarly research, pediatric and emergency medicine rotations, community service, and rotations to multi-disciplinary, off-site clinics.

Our affiliated hospital, The University Medical Center (UMC), provides the Level I, Children Trauma Center at The Children Hospital of Nevada, and associated pediatric rotational clinics.
