The Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in South Asian Studies is available to Syracuse University students in all graduate programs who are looking to supplement their degree with an interdisciplinary approach to the cultures, politics, history, arts, and current events of this region. Students matriculated in any MA or PhD program at Syracuse University and who have completed 12 graduate credit-hours in courses dealing with South Asia are eligible to Director of the South Asia Center for a Certificate of Advanced Study in South Asia. The Director shall determine that the courses listed by the student meet the requirements for the Certificate. Graduate students may at any time after they are matriculated in a graduate program at SU, but it is advisable to wait until their final semester or until they have completed the 12 credit hours. CSAS offers a 15-credit hour Graduate Certificate in South Asian Studies (SAS). This certificate is intended for U-M graduate students in LSA departments and professional schools. The goal of the certificate is to provide a program of study grounded in in-depth interdisciplinary understandings of South Asia to graduate students whose academic and career trajectories require area-focused knowledge and training. Graduate Certificate students should meet with the SAS Advisor at least once per year to evaluate progress toward the certificate. All students interested in a certificate in South Asian Studies must meet with an academic services coordinator prior to submitting an electronic application. Students must complete at least one term in their current U-M graduate professional degree program before applying. Current Rackham Students: A Rackham student must complete at least one term of study before applying for the Graduate Certificate in SAS. Applications must be received by January 15 for winter term, May 15 for spring summer, or September 15 for fall term. Add a Degree or Certificate Program Application (includes CV upload). Non-Rackham Applicants: Students must complete at least one term of study in their current U-M graduate professional program before applying to the Graduate Certificate program.
