Starting in fall 2019, attorneys and non-attorneys are invited to enroll in the Business Entities Taxation certificate program at Chicago-Kent College of Law. Courses are drawn from the Graduate Program in Taxation and allow tax professionals to focus on a specific area of contemporary tax practice. Students must complete two required courses plus one elective course to earn the certificate. The certificate program consists of the following three courses:. While enrolled in the Tax Program, non-degree students can choose to earn a certificate in one of four substantive areas of taxation: Corporate Tax, International Tax, Tax Cortroversy, and Wealth Transfer and Legacy Planning. The Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) is a 12-credit specialized study program in corporate tax, estate planning, or international tax. The APC in Taxation may be completed by students who wish to pursue only the Certificate, as well as students who have been admitted to the Part-time LLM in Taxation program. Candidates for the Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) must hold a JD or an LLB degree from a law school that is approved by the Section on Legal Education of the American Bar Association or its foreign equivalent. Note that these certificates do not qualify one for any professional license or exam, and one may not practice law in the US solely on the basis of having earned one of these certificates. Since the APC consists of advanced courses, students must satisfy prerequisites. Many of the courses in the certificate programs may be available though some required and elective courses may not be. For example, Advanced Corporate Tax Problems, a required course for the corporate certificate, is not offered . Students may suggest a substitute tax class for approval.
