The PhD program in Urban Education is geared toward training highly qualified scholars in K-16 urban education with emphasis in supporting students’ deeper understanding and application of law, policy, the social and cultural contexts of education, and evaluation and research methods within the urban context. The Executive Ph.D. Program in Urban Higher Education at Jackson State University prepares students to assume senior leadership roles in post-secondary institutions and other organizations whose primary endeavors relate to or impact the operations of institutions of higher learning. The program will engage participants in the analysis of different facets of operations and management of post-secondary institutions and in the development of solutions to potential or existing challenges facing urban and metropolitan institutions. Students are trained to study higher education institutions from a trans disciplinary perspective and to appreciate the role and impact of these institutions as engines of social and economic change in urban and metropolitan venues. Students master core knowledge in the field of higher education and develop a high level of analytical research skills, complemented by an extensive breadth of relevant leadership knowledge in management, planning, and policy.
The Ph.D. Program in Urban Leadership Entrepreneurship equips students to become scholar-practitioners through advanced, doctoral-level, empirical research and practical application that will enable them to develop original approaches to problems that are particularly urban. Existing leaders may desire a higher credential to enhance their credibility in the field. The program is a partnership between the University of the District of Columbia and Fielding Graduate University.
