The online Livestock Systems Health (LSH) Graduate Certificate is unique in that it forgoes the traditional focus on individual animals by redirecting learners to consider animal health challenges at a population and systems level, with particular focus on the economic and food safety aspects of disease management and prevention. Course material will an adapted lean manufacturing model and method tailored for the management of animal health and disease in livestock production systems. The material is designed to provide an in-depth and practical understanding of population and systems-based infectious disease control and management practices and to equip learners with the ability to these principles to their own on-the-job decision making. The online graduate certificate requires three courses (minimum of 9 graduate credit hours) consisting of two required courses and one disease elective. The graduate certificate program will take 24 course weeks to complete, requiring approximately 9 hours of work each week. Each course lasts 8 weeks and all material is presented in an asynchronous format with the opportunity to participate in live (online) sessions with the instructor. The online Livestock Business Operations graduate certificate focuses on introducing business principles applied to livestock production operations. Learners will be presented with foundational business knowledge that will enable them to efficiently and effectively run a livestock production business. Learners will be given the opportunity to that knowledge to their current on-the-job decision making. Courses will be case study driven, providing a practical and highly engaging application environment.
