Post-​Master Certificate of Advanced Study in Applied Statistics. Psychology Post-​Master Certificate in Clinical Mental Health in Preparation for Counseling Licensure. Holocaust and Genocide Studies offers a master of arts degree for students who complete the necessary 30 hours in the degree program. For the master degree, field studies and a thesis are options. A graduate certificate is also offered for students who complete an 18-hour program of study.

The East Asian Studies Program and Department offer two certificates for minoring in East Asian Studies. The East Asian Studies Program Certificate is administered by the East Asian Studies Program Coordinator. The East Asian Studies Department Certificate is administered by the Department. If students cannot write a senior thesis meeting these criteria, either a junior paper or an original seminar paper can be substituted, assuming the criteria for an East Asian topic and East Asian language sources, as stated above, are met. The paper will need to be a substantial research paper. That is, it must report the results of an independent investigation of a scholarly question. Essays, book reports, and standard course term papers are not acceptable. A length of 25 pages or is expected. If students submit a seminar paper, the seminar for which it was written cannot count toward their course requirements for the EAS certificate, but it must be a ninth course. The Program Director must approve of the proposed substitution. Students can obtain an application from the Program Office in 219 Frist Campus Center or download the Program Certificate application form here. Earning both Program and Language Culture Certificates Students may not earn both East Asian Studies Department and East Asian Studies Program certificates. Independent Paper Students pursuing a major that prevents writing a long paper on an East Asian topic, but who would like to pursue the certificate, have the option of writing a paper independent of a course. Students should be aware that they will not be awarded credit through the University for this independent work it will count only in terms of attainment of the East Asian Studies Program certificate. Summer Language Courses Courses Taken Abroad Candidates should get pre-approval from the Program Director for language or content courses taken over the summer or during a semester abroad to be certain that they will count toward attainment of the certificate.

The PhD cluster and certificate in Middle East and North African Studies (MENA) offer rigorous, interdisciplinary approaches to the study and understanding of the world region stretching roughly from Morocco in the West to Iran and Central Asia in the East, the Mediterranean in the North and into Saharan Africa and the Sudan in the South. The cluster and certificate curricula keep in continued and productive tension the idea that MENA is a coherent world region as well as the history and politics of the area studies designation. The MENA Program leads students in an inquiry into the cultural, political, and economic conditions of globalization, including media, migration, digital cultures, cultural production, law, and religion secularism, as they inflect the region and its relationships both internally and externally. The Western Michigan University Graduate Specialty Certificate in Aging Studies enhances the knowledge and skills of individuals working with or studying older adults and aging processes. As individuals age, gerontologists seek to improve their quality of life and promote their well-being within their families, their community and society through research, education and application of interdisciplinary knowledge of the aging process and aging populations. Students in the WMU certificate program learn the biological, social and psychological foundations of human aging with a focus on global and cultural variations. You can earn a graduate specialty certificate on its own, or to supplement other graduate education. The certificate may be of special interest to those who are enrolled in programs related to health and human services, preparing for careers in public service and program administration, and those in basic and applied science fields who are interested in the study of aging. Courses are offered online and the certificate can be completed in one year. Financial aid for the certificate is only available if you are pursuing another graduate degree at Western Michigan University.

The Economics and Decision Sciences offers a post-baccalaureate certificate program to graduate level students who are interested in the field of Business Analytics. Western European Studies program brings together the technical skills of data mining, statistical modeling, and forecasting for data driven decision making and for solving the analytical problems of the contemporary business world. The program is designed for graduate level students in diverse backgrounds. The Business Analytics post-baccalaureate certificate program is closely related to the Master degree programs in Economics, Applied Statistics and Decision Analytics, Business Administration or Mathematics. Students interested in pursuing one of these degree programs may some semester hours earned in the Business Analytics certificate towards the fulfillment of requirements of these or other graduate programs. Students who want the post-baccalaureate certificate must meet admission requirements. Non-degree students must meet the admission requirements for the Graduate School degree students must meet the admission requirements for their degree program. The post-baccalaureate certificate program in business analytics students must hold an earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. Applicants are expected to have had at least one course in introductory statistics equivalent to Stat 171 or higher. A course in calculus (equivalent to Math 137) and or a course in linear Algebra would be desirable but is not required to fulfill the deficiencies. Students deficient in the above minimum requirements may be required to complete deficiencies before starting the post-baccalaureate certificate program in business analytics. Students whose native language is other than English must demonstrate written and spoken English language proficiency.
