The graduate certificate provides an interdisciplinary focus on gender and sexuality issues to enrich a student’s disciplinary or professional training. The program may be completed in one year or two. Through a challenging, 12-credit-hour program of study, students think and learn gender in a systematic and integrated way using a variety of methodological approaches. Electives that qualify for certificate credit include courses in feminist theory and ethics, law, health, public policy and the intersections of race, gender and class. The Women’s Studies program is administered by the Center for Women’s Studies and Gender Research. This interdisciplinary forum for graduate studies offers both a Thesis and a Non-Thesis M.A., as well as a two certificates. Certificates (M.A. or Ph.D. level): Two graduate certificates in Women’s Studies for master’s and doctoral students are offered in conjunction with degree programs in other academic units.

Students shall declare their intention to acquire a graduate certificate in the study of gender and sexuality either when they accept their offers to come to their departments at Princeton; at the end of their first year as graduate students; or at the start of the semester in which they intend to take their Ph.D. qualifying exams.

The certificate in the Study of Women, Gender and Sexuality is a graduate certificate. This certificate is not a freestanding degree program; in addition to fulfilling the certificate requirements outlined below, candidates will be required to complete successfully the degree program to which they have been admitted in order to receive this certificate. Upon completion, the certificate is awarded at the same time as the conferral of the student’s Rice degree, along with a formal notation on their academic transcript.

WGS Graduate Certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies. The Women, Gender Sexuality (WGS) is pleased to offer a Graduate Certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies. This certificate program is open to doctoral students in any UVA’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. For purposes of the graduate certificate program, successful completion means finishing a course with a grade of B or better. If a student wishes to enroll for credit toward the certificate in a class that is not already on the Department’s list of approved courses, the student may submit a petition to the WGS Department Chair. If a course is approved by the committee, it will be added to the approved list. Any instructors whose course(s) is are listed in error should notify the WGS Department Chair to ask that their course(s) be removed.

Established in 1982, the graduate certificate in Women Studies is designed for students already enrolled in a terminal degree program at the University of Michigan. The Certificate, which can be combined with either a masters or a doctoral degree, aims to provide:. The graduate certificate in Women Studies consists of coursework totalling 15 credits. Core courses provide students with an understanding of feminist theory and methodology, while electives provide advanced coursework on women and gender in a student discipline. The certificate culminates in an advanced research project designed to incorporate a feminist perspective. All certificate students are required to take Women Studies 530: Theories of Feminism. This course explores various schools of feminist thought over the last thirty years and examines how knowledge is produced in gendered ways from an interdisciplinary perspective. Certificate students are required to take two additional electives (3 credits each). One elective should fall outside of students primary discipline. All certificate students will enroll in Women Studies 890: Advanced Research, and carry out a culminating scholarly project that demonstrates how they have integrated feminist perspectives with their discipline(s). The final project can be one of the following (or another format to be approved by the Certificate Advisory Committee in the Women’s Studies Department):. The scholarly project should fall into one of the following categories (formats not falling into any of these categories require approval from the WS Certificate Advisory Committee):. Explain the impact of the Women’s Studies certificate program on the student as a scholar. Approve this final project as the culmination of the Women’s Studies Certificate.

Graduate Certificate in Women’s, Gender, Sexuality Studies. The Graduate Certificate in WGS will require four courses focused on women, gender, and or sexuality. Certificate candidates must participate at least once in an annual pedagogical workshop to be organized by the Director of Graduate Studies. Students interested in earning a Graduate Certificate in WGS must be accepted into a graduate program at BU and be in good standing. The program in Women’s, Gender, Sexuality Studies will not admit students for the Graduate Certificate alone. Students who wish to pursue Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the graduate level at Northeastern will have an opportunity to engage these issues in depth from feminist and interdisciplinary perspectives by choosing to pursue a graduate certificate in WGSS or taking courses at Northeastern or at the Graduate Consortium for Studies in Gender, Culture, Women, and Sexuality. Students will analyze contemporary theoretical frameworks, methodologies, issues, and topics and their relation to established disciplines focus on issues of gender, race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality and challenge the traditional separation of academic theory from political and professional practice. Designed for students already enrolled in a graduate degree program at Northeastern University, the graduate program in WGSS currently offers a certificate that can be combined with either a master’s or a doctoral degree in another discipline.
